AMERICANS ADVANCE TO SINGLES FINAL AT THE ELIZABETH MOORE SARASOTA OPEN

Tennys Sandgren won - or survived - his first round encounter with Ryan Shane 36 76 76 last night at the Sarasota Open but the most poignant moment of the evening happened not in the heat of competition.

Spoke with Michael Redlicki yesterday, he like many other players are just not happy with these new rules of ATP and ITF Tours and the point system and how lower ranked players are being weeded out. Petr Korda is also not a fan of the new rules, concerned about the futures of the lower ranked players and how hard it is to get to the top 100. The qualifying tournament for this Sarasota Open had just two matches. The foundation of tennis - the young players - are being pushed out. \SARASOTA, Fla., April 18, 2019 - Defending champion and top seed Hugo Dellien of Boliva was knocked out of the tournament on court two, by Asian Karatsev (RUS), 7-6(4), 6-2. At the same time of the upset by Karatsev, Second-seed, Tennys Sandgren (USA) saved four set points in the first set to thwart Brazil's Guilherme Clezar, 7-6 (5), 6-2. Sandgren was down 15-40 in his service games at 4-5 and 5-6 but summoned some sensational tennis to escape severe trouble, including a second serve, kick serve ace down the tee on one of the set points.
