Next Tennis Book Is About Sarasota Open

Having attended the Sarasota Open ATP Challenger every year since 2013 I suddenly got an idea to do a book about it and all the stories and memories I and others have collected about the popular tennis tournament.

There are countless stories about players, matches, odd occurrences and so much more associated with the tournament I am sure a good, fun reading book can be put together about it. The ingredients are all there, it’s just a matter of putting it all together.

From Nick Kyrgios’s second ATP Challenger title win at age 18, the Frances Tiafoe night match interruption event, Jack Sock’s final ATP singles match and shock upset loss, Tennys Sandgren’s autograph signing right in the middle of a match, and so much more, the process of making the book began last week and it’s off to a terrific start.

There are several inspirations in this project including Norman Mailer’s book about the Ali vs. Foreman fight in Zaire in 1974 (The Fight) and William Klein’s French Open 1981 documentary.

Right now the working title is Sarasota Open 2024. If you never thought a book would be written about an ATP Challenger tournament, you’re right. I never did either. Until last week…
