Andrade And Gomez Battle Three Weeks In A Row!

In one of those infinitesimal quirks of ATP draws, two players were drawn to play each other three weeks in a row.

Andres Andrade and Federico Gomez clashed at the three southern US Challenger swing circuit in Sarasota, Tallahassee and today in Savannah.

The 6-3, 210 pound huge serving brute from Argentina topped the Ecuadorian Andrade in the second round of Sarasota qualies 62 16 76 and then again in Tallahasse round of 32 64 64. But the 25 year old turned the tables on Gomez today in the QF in Savannah with a problem-solving 75 61 win.

Andrade is ranked 475 and 27 year old Gomez is 326.

It’s almost impossible that two ATP players ended up playing each other in three straight tournaments in three consecutive weeks.

Believe it or not, two players did play each other four times in a row first round. It happened in 1999 in Scottsdale, Indian Wells, Miami and Atlanta. It was Lleyton Hewitt vs. Mark Woodforde. Hewitt won the first three on hard courts and then Woodforde won in Atlanta on clay in three sets.
