Chardy Now In Control of Simon Rivalry

Gilles Simon served by the Mrs.

Gilles Simon won the first four matches he played vs his French countryman Jeremy Chardy from 2011 to 2015, but the tables have been turned.

Evidently, Chardy has figured out how to offset Simon’s steady baseline prowess, as evidenced by his winning the last four matches between the pair.

Chardy won again yesterday in Melbourne, once again in straight sets. Since Simon’s last win vs Chardy 75 76 in Marseille QF in 2015, Chardy has won all four duels, each in straight sets.

Chardy won in 2017 in Paris Indoors 63 60. Then again in Miami 2019 64 62. Then again in Adelaide 2020 63 75. And yesterday 63 64 at the Murray River Open.

All is not lost for Simon though, can still savor the fact he holds a couple of edges on Chardy. The 36 year old Simon is ranked 64 while the 33 year old Chardy is ranked two notches lower at no. 66.

Also, Simon has won 14 career ATP singles titles, while Chardy has just one.

Funny how those rivalries work, eh?
