Season Begins In Melbourne

Novak Djokovic was as intense as ever beating a spirited Denis Shapovalov 75 75 in ATP Cup, punctuating the fierce battle with many roars and some new boxing fist pump/punches. Djokovic is wounded from losing in French Open and US Open and desperately wants to regain his lost aura. Shapo is eager to take the next step up to the elite ATP pantheon.

Kevin Anderson made it five for five vs Feliciano Lopez.

Corentin Moutet beat Frances Tiafoe again in three sets.

Coco Gauff lost a three setter to 300 something 24 year old journeywoman Katie Boulter 63 in the third. Gauff had three double faults in the last game. Sad to say she looks like a lost player, the hype and pressure and expectations and a lot of losses have drained her confidence. Manipulating her to be a political activist certainly did not help her on court progression either.

Su-wei Hsieh lost badly to Allison Vanuytvanck 62 60.

Serena Williams won vs Gavrilova in straight sets and if she can beat Pivaronkova again she could face Danielle Collins in what would be a very interesting clash of two fierce Americans.

Kyrgios has won two matches…Nadal backs out of ATP Cup afte beating Thiem with a supposed back injury, convenient to rest up for AO and let Djokovic burn out winning the ATP Cup.
