Here we are, it’s Wimbledon…

P1011052

The most illustrious and prestigious tennis tournament of the year has commenced.

Just saw Puerto Rico’s teen Monica Puig knock off Sara Errani, she looks like a toughie. Keep seeing the name Puig in the results, rising slowly and steadily. Can you imagine a Grand Slam champion from Puerto Rico? Puig trains out of Miami.

Roger Federer just made a nifty volley to hold his opening serve vs. veteran Victor Hanescu. I read that quote this week from Vijay Armitraj, who says Federer is the modern personification of the classical tennis player. It sure is nice to see Federer gracing Center Court once again.

Isner vs. Donskoy rematch later today.

Condoleeza Rice in the house, so is Kate Middleton. Or is that Pippa? I get them mixed up.

Fognini is fighting an early exit!

  • Scoop Malinowski · June 24, 2013 at 9:30 am

I don’t think Fognini likes the green grass Steve. Janowicz is cruising. BTW he’s dating the fabulous Marta Domachowska. Isner up 3-0 on Donskoy. Igor Andreev is back! But he’s gonna lose first round. Rosol is in a dogfight. Fed looked perfect today as he dismantled Hansecu.

  • Steve · June 24, 2013 at 9:38 am

I think Gasquet and the Dog play tomorrow.

Azarenka is a drama queen, I thought she needed major reconstructive knee surgery after that fall. She just closed out Koehler 61 62.

Just got some good news, I’m ranked #3 in USTA 45s my best ranking ever, well within striking distance of #2 and maybe even #1.

Evert on Serena vs. Maria: “They’re two very different people. They rub each other the wrong way.”

  • Scoop Malinowski · June 24, 2013 at 10:13 am

Gee, I can see Kristina Mladenovic featured on magazine covers someday.

  • Scoop Malinowski · June 24, 2013 at 10:14 am

Maria is in big trouble here, down 4-5 in the first set to Mladenovic.

  • Steve · June 24, 2013 at 10:55 am

Congrats on your new ranking Scoop. Well earned!
Did you get to play both tourneys on Sunday?

  • Scoop Malinowski · June 24, 2013 at 11:08 am

Steve; I went to WM not sure of what to do, was going to play one match but when I got there at 10:55 they defaulted me because the time was 10:30, I thought it was 11:30. Kind of glad that settled it as it would have been a tiring match in 90 degree heat and might have affected me for the more important title at this time – the USTA tourney in New City. If I did play that SF match it might have drained me for the New City match. Getting the points in New City will really help my ranking chase to #2 or maybe even #1. Now I will play WM next year with a big chip on my shoulder )

  • Scoop Malinowski · June 24, 2013 at 11:13 am

Wow, Nadal is stuck in a first set tiebreak with Darcis, who is coached by O. Rochus. Last time I saw Darcis, he was leaving by himself on foot out of the front gate to get a taxi at the Sony Open after losing in the first round of qualies this year.

  • Scoop Malinowski · June 24, 2013 at 11:17 am

WOW what an incredible pt at 5-3 Darcis to get to set point 6-3. Playing the set of his life here.

  • Dan Markowitz · June 24, 2013 at 11:39 am

Congrats on your high ranking, Scoop. Seems like your playing your best tennis ever.2-all second set. I’ve always liked Darcis clean game. PMac and Killer are calling him Dar-CIS, I always thought it was Darcis. Makes him seem like a new player although he’s been around forever. Another one of the short Belgium players. He’s serving very well.

Always a tipping point with Nadal at the beginning of these slams it seems. Will the underdog pull out the upset before Nadal finds his game?

  • Mitch · June 24, 2013 at 11:44 am

Where have Nalbandian and Davydenko been?

  • Scoop Malinowski · June 24, 2013 at 2:09 pm

Thanks Dan, think you’re right, feel at my best now with serve and backhand and net game, movement still there. Darcis was a top 5 junior about seven years ago, slow transition to pro level. Rafa is a mystery, he has had some very strange results at Wimbledon. Curious and strange.

  • Scoop Malinowski · June 24, 2013 at 2:09 pm

Mitch, Nalbandian just became a father a few weeks ago, maybe that has something to do with his absense.

  • Steve · June 24, 2013 at 2:10 pm

    Where’s Henk?

  • Scoop Malinowski · June 24, 2013 at 2:32 pm

He might still be celebrating Rafa’s French Open win down in Puerto Vallarta )

  • Steve · June 24, 2013 at 3:52 pm

Well, I was hoping he could shed some light on this loss since he is a Nadal superfan.
