Gotta Admit I REALLY Want Murray To Win Today

He has suffered and waited long enough. It’s time now, to get the gorillas off his back once and for all. It’s been about five years of failures against expectations, always coming up short to Rafa, Rodge and Djokovic. It’s time to change the dismal pattern, it’s time for Murray to feel like a winner on final sunday of a grand slam.

It’s time for the UK to have their first major champ since Fred Perry or Virgnia Wade. It’s been too long.

Murray is a champion, his fourth final will be the charm. I believe he’s going to figure out how to play his best tennis today and will upset Federer.

Sometimes in sports when you least expect it to happen, it does. Like when the Red Sox came back from 0-3 down to the Yanks and when Dan Jansen finally won a gold medal in his final Olympic speed skating event, after 12 years of failure.

Another failure on the big stage, a fourth flop is not in the cards. Murray in four today. And it will be hysteria in England like never before, well, maybe when Lennox Lewis stopped Mike Tyson in Memphis in 2002.

Infinite respect to Federer, he is the ultimate champion and sportsman, but no man should have to wait and suffer for as long as someone as talented and dedicated as Andy Murray. Murray has paid his dues, it’s his time now. It’s his day. A day millions of people have been waiting for for decades.

Murray walks through the hallways and onto the court with his Head in his hand. Federer, empty handed, and looking stoic and cool as always.

  • Andrew Miller · July 8, 2012 at 2:06 pm

If Murray keeps hitting the ball at Federer’s head when Federer is at the net, he has a good shot for title.

Well it’s the Jubilee year. He has a new, fantastic coach. It seems the stars have aligned for him. Murray even hit directly at Federer already, the Lendl shot.

Federer wins the 2nd set with a touch of class. A backhand volley drop shot. Amazing.

  • Andrew Miller · July 8, 2012 at 3:13 pm

Federer playing well. Too bad he can’t serve out game 3 of the third set, up 40-0, before calling it for rain.

  • Steve · July 8, 2012 at 3:18 pm

The tennis Gods clearly want Murray to win. hehehe Fed’s new found momentum stopped by rain.

On the whole, I think the delay/roof closing will help Federer. By holding in his first service game, Murray stopped the rot, so I don’t think Fed will really lose momentum. The indoor conditions should help Fed’s game though.

Both Mcenroe brothers in the box is weird…

  • Andrew Miller · July 8, 2012 at 4:40 pm

Murray a very solid indoor player. I think he will have his chances in set 4. Fact that he’s not broken spirited after the long service game in set 3 shows he’s still up for playing tough. Should help him keep this competitive.

Gotta say, Murray’s box, like Scoop said, needs work. Scoop is right, Jelena Ristic IS the world’s best fan.

That said, Duchess K. Middleton is a GREAT FAN! She is helping Murray this match way more than anyone but Lendl.

  • Steve · July 8, 2012 at 5:03 pm

Not feeling this theory. Lendl didn’t need box cheer to win 8 slams

  • Steve · July 8, 2012 at 5:24 pm

Always believed in Federer! The greatest player on the planet and now the greatest player in history. And Scoop & Dan, just so you know, he’s got another one in him! In case you want to write him off again.

The doubters were wrong but, heck, I picked Tsonga to win this. Fed will win another US Open or Wimbledon. The year end finals gave us all the data we needed –on a fairly fast, non-clay court Fed is still the best player on the planet.

Murray played his best tennis but was out-classed in the end. I was truly shocked to see that Federer was fitter than the 25 yr old. Fed didn’t breath heavy at all.

Congrats to the new #1 and to all Federer fans!

Well done by Federer. Hope Murray uses this as fuel and finds his rhythm in a slam final in future, maybe US Open. Murray hit some very hard forehands and the passing shot looks good. Plus like Chris Fowler said, Murray won hearts this tournament. I’m rooting for him.

  • Steve · July 8, 2012 at 5:42 pm

Murray is now the Buffalo Bills of tennis.

What a match huh? Like Agassi said after his win over Blake at US Open, he didn’t win, tennis won today. I thought the key moment was 5-6 in the second, Murray serving 30-15 and he hit an ace wide but it hit the net cord and if that ace doesn’t touch the cord, it’s 40-15 and likely into the second set TB where Murray would have had a great shot to go up two sets to love. But Fed came back and won that game/set 7-5 and then he raised his level. Murray played his absolute heart out, he played superb tennis, fought and fought, but Federer came up with some of his all time best tennis today and Friday. Hat’s off to Federer he is the ultimate champion for all sport but Murray impressed me more in defeat and his interview with Sue Barker which even John McEnroe said made him cry. Also, thought the performance by Fowler and both McEnroes was just a pleasure and joy to listen to. Tennis won today. And God I hope Murray gets his Wimbledon or any major very very soon.

I like Murray’s game, changing pace, variety, building points like an unsmooth Hingis from back in the day. I thought I was ready to start rooting for him as he left playing possum behind but now he’s hitting my fav. players. In fact, he broke the universal man-code and hit Tsonga in his “area”. So I wasn’t moved by Andy’s tears. I do feel for the UK fans though. However, I’d much prefer someone like Ferrer to get a slam.

I don’t think Murray can play better than he did today. He wouldn’t have beaten Djoker today either but maybe could have beaten Nadal. I also wonder what Nadal is working on right now. We know he’s always trying to improve.

I think Murray makes some bad decisions in tight spots. Ill advised lobs off 100 mph forehands, a backhand overhead, scissor kick, wild forehands when there’s no need. Ill-timed slow & fast serves.

Agree Scoop, tennis won today. Can’t wait to re-watch this match.

  • loreley · July 9, 2012 at 6:44 am

Tennis won. Doesn’t happen that often anymore.

  • Scoop Malinowski · July 9, 2012 at 12:13 pm

Steve, Murray can serve a lot better than he did today, his first serve was errant by inches far too many times, so many into the netcord going down the Texas tee bone (Luke Jensen line). That net cord ace late in the second which would have given him 40-15 to go to the TB was a killer. If he wins that TB and goes up two sets I think he cruises to victory. So close yet so far. Super entertaining final, you don’t often see so many fans crying or hear Johnny McEnroe admit he cried after Murray’s speech to Barker. This was a special day for the sport. I think tennis will gain a lot of new fans from this match, the casual ones will become avid fans.

  • Steve · July 9, 2012 at 1:00 pm

Scoop, a 56% first serve percentage for Murray is actually good for him. He’s usually lower. He’s likes going for the 130 mph bomb. His 2nd serve is too easily to attacked by Fed & Djoker.

  • Steve · July 9, 2012 at 1:02 pm

I think his serve motion has some extra movements which throw off his ball toss a bit.

  • Steve · July 9, 2012 at 1:07 pm

Murray, had 16 aces(more than Fed), 1 double fault(less than Fed), won 69% of his 1st serves points.

  • Harold · July 9, 2012 at 1:38 pm

Fed was 53-68 at the net,78?% against a guy with the passing skills of Murray. Insane numbers, didnt seem like he came in that much

What helped Federer win this weekend was the roof closure. Back in 2008, I rooted for Rafa to beat Roger because I thought that was his only chance before AELTC was going to install the roof in 2009. I believed that Roger was going to win many more Wimbledons despite the loss to Rafa that year because of the roof. Roger is the best indoor player in the game. He did win in 2009 and now 2012.

I actually expected a Rafa loss to Rosol or such a player because of the roof over the years. Finally it came this year. Rafa thankfully won a 2nd Wimbledon in 2010 because the weather was good that year. Djoker won in 2011 thanks to good weather. And the roof did not become a factor.

But this year, Federer reaps the benefits of the roof. And of course, it all comes down to the weather allowing such favorable circumstances. And Federer does not have to apologize for being a great indoor player, and winning accordingly.

If only the roof was available in the years Henman competed. This drought might have been over back.
