First Tennis Memory: I remember being on the court with my mom (Sondra) and I was crying because it was raining and I couldn’t play [smiles]. And I was four.
Tennis Inspirations: Definitely my parents. They both played in college. And they taught me how to play. And my favorite player has always been Monfils. Super fun to watch. Always been my favorite growing up.
First Famous Player You Met Or Encountered: Maybe Stevie (Johnson). I think Stevie. Because I practiced with him in 2020, 2021. Because I practiced with him and it was really cool. (Where?) Newport Beach.
Last Book Read: Last book I read… oh my goodness… I have no idea. Last book I read… I couldn’t tell you, if I’m being fully honest, I couldn’t tell you [laughs]. (Note: After the interview I gave Alex a copy of Facing Novak Djokovic.)
Current Car: An Acura MDX 2014 (gray).
Greatest Career Moment: Oh it’s a tough one. Between winning a Challenger last week (in Chicago) and winning Wimbledon juniors (2022) with my friend Sebastian (Gorzny). I think those are the two.
Most Painful Moment: Losing in qualies at Australian Open juniors. Going all the way down there and losing in qualies was tough. Sixteen hour flight to lose in qualies.
Best You Ever Felt On Court: Yesterday (Newport win vs James Duckworth 46 63 60). I didn’t miss a ball for ten games. (You were down 46 23 and won every game after that.) Yeah, didn’t really miss a ball from there. It was unreal.
Embarrassing Tennis Memory: Probably just launching balls out of the court when I got mad, it’s pretty embarrassing. Honestly, looking back.
Favorite Sport Outside Tennis: Basketball.
Favorite Athletes To Watch: Lebron, Messi – incredible athletes. Federer.
Favorite Ice Cream Flavor: Vanilla obviously, it’s the best.
Why Do You Love Tennis: Because I’m good at it.
Toughest Competitors Encountered: Ben Shelton is up there for sure. And myself.
Funniest Players Encountered: Abdullah Shelbayh, (Alex looks around at practice courts) where ever he is, out there practicing. The guy is hilarious. His accent is hilarious. He just says funny, out-of-pocket things. Just pretty funny guy, pretty funny guy.
People Qualities Most Admired: Respectfulness and loyalty.
