Ana Ivanovic played one of her best matches in a long, long time to beat Stosur. She blew set points and lost the first set tiebreak but she regrouped and won the next two sets overcoming plenty of adversity. It's easy to forget Ana was once the world's best female player. She certainly looked it against Sam.

ATP veteran Teymuraz Gabashvili has finally earned his rematch with Roger Federer. Gabashvili first played Federer at Wimbledon 2007, which was his debut at the AELTC. He did reasonably well and had some opportunities despite falling in straights sets. Now, seven years later, could the more seasoned and experienced Gabashvili pull off the big upset over the supposedly decling Federer?

There was no way to watch Lleyton Hewitt fight back from two sets down, all the way to earn himself a match point but still lose in five brutal sets to Italian Stallion Andreas Seppi 7-5 in the fifth, and not wonder if this was the "Last Hurrah."

On Facebook, in a post, former two-time Australian Open champion Johan Kriek struck back against Tennis Magazine's Peter Bodo for what he deemed inaccurate reporting...

First Tennis Memory: "I don't have a lot of memories because I wasn't watching a lot of tennis but I'm gonna say...what can I say...maybe when I went to the Open 12 in France in Marseilles. I saw (Arnaud) Clement play, for me he was a big star. He gave me a towel and for me that was a big moment [smiles]."

Everybody loves early January, for it's the start of a new tennis season. Every player has hopes and dreams that this can be their time to shine and make a mark in Melbourne.
So far the story of the season has been the re-emergence of Lleyton Hewitt and all the injury pullouts and defaults. Players are dropping out left and right of the warm up events which is causing some surprise to court observers.

Lleyton Hewitt and Roger Federer battled the heat and their opposition to advance to a much anticipated final in Brisbane.
With temperatures climbing to over 105°F, both Hewitt and Federer were the ones to hold their cool in tense and dramatic semi final wins on Saturday.
