Andrés Bella is a New York native whose artwork has appeared in galleries around New York City, including Benrimon Contemporary and Dorian Grey Gallery. Andrés cultivates his art through the triumph, defeat, stress, and frustration he has experienced as a tennis player and as a person. He expresses himself by repurposing the tennis materials he once used to excel on the tennis court.

About the Borg piece “Bjorn to Play”

“It’s a racquet portrait piece of former professional tennis player, Bjorn Borg. My friend, Scoop Malinowski, author of “Facing Federer”, donated the racquet so that I could create this piece. Thank you Scoop.”

Borg’s likeness was created with tennis string layered on top of the strung racquet. I then painted his face in black oil paint for a bolder look. His headband is all tennis string weaved in and out of the strung racquet. The canvas was painted in oil and represents the flag of his home country, Sweden. The entire piece stands at 36in x 12in.

Andres Bella played collegiate tennis and once played James Blake. You can see more of his work at www.andresbellaart.com

Hi Harold. Andres has a lot of cool stuff, good person to meet. You won’t be disappointed. I’d be there too if I was up north.

    Thank you, Scoop.

Harold, the exhibit runs through March 1st. If you have any questions when you’re there, ask for Boris, he curates the art space. If you have any questions for me, you can contact me through my website.

    Best,
    Andrés
