Is Hewitt a Doomed Davis Cup Captain?

hewww By Scoop Malinowski It's three years now that Lleyton Hewitt has been at the helm of the Australian Davis Cup team and two of those years produced first round crash outs, including this weekend's surprising disastrous loss to Germany. Hewitt's aggressive, pushy captaining style has clearly worked with developing young Alex Deminaur into a major prospect who has made a big name for himself by reaching an ATP final this year and by extending Alex Zverev to a fifth set tiebreaker in the first singles match on Friday. rioshs By Scoop Malinowski Former world number one Marcelo Rios continues to hold the media in disdain. Rios, who has had a confrontational and often bitter relations with the media since his junior career, was fined $2,500 on Saturday for telling journalists they "suck" at a Davis Cup tie vs. Ecuador. The heavily tattoed and very muscular 42-year-old Chilean, now based in Sarasota, FL, was sanctioned by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) after he refused to be interviewed during the Davis Cup clash contested by Chile and Ecuador in Santiago, Chile. Why did Hewitt bypass Kokkinakis for Thompson?

tkokk By Scoop Malinowski Australian Davis Cup captain Lleyton Hewitt selected Alex Deminaur, Nick Kyrgios John Peers and Jordan Thompson to represent Australia in their coming tie vs Germany this weekend. It's not an entirely understandable decision by captain Hewitt as Thompson has an 0-3 match record on the year and is struggling with confidence issues. Continue to read full article...

Davis Cup Final France vs Belgium

davis cup David Goffin might be the greatest player in tennis history, pound for pound, inch for inch. Somehow this five-foot, eleven inch, 150 pounder, who could pass for a ballboy or an ITF 16s junior at Hollywood casting, is really a gargantuan tennis terror in disguise. A week ago Goffin swept through the ATP World Tour Finals all the way to the finals in London where he lost by a nose to Grigor Dimitrov 64 in the third. Continue to read full article...

Biofile Leander Paes Interview

First Tennis Memory: "I was playing back home in Calcutta with my dad. And the best thing that I liked about tennis is that I could spend time with my dad on the court. It was basically my two hours of his undivided attention which was magic for me." Pre-Match Feeling: "Before a match I basically just cleanse my mind of any thought, any direction, any events that have happened during the day or the night before. I leave everything that I walked into the locker room with, out of my mind. And then I just leave my thoughts blank, with just a few tactical thoughts. And then I let my mind react. I let my mind be instinctive. I let my mind control my body. And just let all that muscle memory come in. And breathe the air slowly, take in the flavors of the court. Just feel those sweat beads coming down me and let my muscles roll. And I know that once I find my rhythm, which is basically what I was looking for, if I find my rhythm on a certain day, it'll be hard for anyone to beat me." Continue to read full article...

Biofile with Michael Llodra

At 30, this aggressive and aesthetic French serve & volleyer may be entering the prime of his singles career. With two ATP singles titles this year, Llodra is about to surpass his career high ATP singles ranking of #34 which was achieved in 2008 (he's at 35 right now), following Wednesday's straight set masterpiece victory against Wimbledon finalist and #7 seed Tomas Berdych. No stranger to grand slam doubles titles, Llodra, who is known to strip off his shirt, shoes and sometimes even shorts after major victories, could be saving the best for last as his singles career continues to flourish. Playing perhaps the best tennis of his life, Llodra is also part of France's Davis Cup team which will clash with Argentina in the semifinal round in Lyon later this month...
