Elina Svitolina, #4 seed after 64 64 win vs Rodina, on if players complain about other players to each other: “I don’t know. It’s tough to say from behalf of the other players because I’m not really speaking like so much with everyone. Of course I have some friends on the tour and I don’t really like to be one of the, you know, just behind the back speaking. I prefer just to stay away like I have my career and that’s … I don’t really want to think about some other players.”

Shelby Rogers, who won a three hour plus marathon vs Daria Gavrilova 76 46 76, said she’s an emotional person: “I guess everybody knows that I’m a very emotional person. Yes, I’m a hugger. I usually hug everyone after my match. Some don’t like it. Sorry. Two, I cry a lot. We saw at the French Open last year. You know, reading a book, watching sad… I just cry, that’s what I do. It was very emotional for me today being down in the third, coming back, having a few match points. To get through that on the winning side was just really incredible. The crowd helped me so much. They gave me some energy in the third, for sure. I was just so grateful to them for staying there three and a half hours. Yeah, I just had to let it all go.”

Roger Federer, after his five set win vs Youzhny, said the ATp changing of the guard may have to wait a while more: “I think it’s going to be very interesting. Changing of the guard is going to come at some stage. Could very well be next year. But I still predict it’s going to take a few more.”

Roger says he still seeks to improve his game in every practice: “I don’t (play on public courts) enough because the problem is we always go out (to practice), there’s always something to improve. If you don’t go out and improve something, you feel like it’s a waste.”

Naomi Osaka
talked about a fan giving her tactical advices that worked! “There was one match I was playing and this person kept telling me what to do. So then I kind of wanted to ask him what his ranking was and stuff. He was like, Hit your forehand, hit high on her forehand (because) she hits flat balls. You can do it. He was nice about it. At least he wasn’t mean. And I actually did it twice and it did work.”

Denis Shapovalov feels right at home locking horns with the ATP’s elite: “I think every win that I’ve been going through, it’s been securing anyone’s doubts or even my own doubts, whether or not I belong. I belong with these guys, playing these high level tournaments. So this win, it’s definitely another confidence boost. It shows that Montreal wasn’t a fluke week. To do it back to back, it’s not easy. I’ve had to go through qualifying which is also stacked with super tough players. So I’m extremely proud of myself for how long I’ve come. It’s going to be another battle against Kyle (Edmund). I’m going to do the best I can to take it to him.”

Scoop, Any comment by Donald Young after his match? Monfils said that Young wasn’t aggressive and allowed him to stay in the match and that he should have been beaten. Le Monf said the win was a miracle and he’s not sure he will play versus Goffin.

I didn’t go to DY’s press conference. Will find out today what he said. I did learn that Janowicz forgot to enter the US Open qualies and that’s the reason why he played a Challenger last week. He forgot to enter lol. Polish colleague told me it was in the Polish media.
