2023 US Open champion Coco Gauff has seen enough of the Gaza Genocide being executed by Israel. Like Ons Jabeur, Gauff has now publicly supported Palestine:
“I feel like it would be ignorant to say I’m not aware, I’m very aware of everything that’s going on in Gaza. For me, I always say I pray for peace in the region. And I really don’t like what’s going on. For me, it’s sometimes troubling to live the life I live, in knowing that so many kids and innocent people are dying on both ends, but especially in what’s going on in Gaza and the occupation that’s happening…”
“In my position, I know there’s not much I can do other than raise awareness and donate. So that’s what I encourage everyone to do and just pray for peace and demand peace and demand that this stops happening.” “I feel like it’s very ignorant to say you’re not aware because it is everywhere, you see it on the news and I think it’s important for us as privileged civilians to do our research and just continuing to demand our leaders to make change and I will never not advocate for that. And I do advocate for peace and I advocate for the thousands, I think it’s almost like I said millions at this point, of kids and innocent people being killed for a conflict that I feel like shouldn’t be happening.”

I can’t see that Coco has supported Palestine here at all.
In any case I think this topic surely has no place in T-P. And I speak as one who comes from a country probably more involved than any other in the origins of the Middle East mayhem.

Fur sure she has Catherine, but she has to word it very very carefully and delicately because as a high profile figure speaking out (indirectly) against israel she or her family could get harmed. Credit for Coco and Ons for being the only two major athletes in the world to do the right thing for Palestine which is being holocausted out of existence. Despicable.

Palestine has existed for thousands of years. It’ll survive.
I have jewish friends who are appalled by the policies of the current jewish state and its prime minister. And quite a few who agree ‘the creation of Israel was a terrible mistake.’
But unravelling the follies of Israel/Palestine since 1948 seems impossible at present so let’s just join Coco and pray for peace.

Catherine, we all have Jew friends who are great but I’ve also lost friends over this. Those zionist jews need to assimilate to the world and stop trying to control everything. You know it’s bad when Ons Jabeur breaks down in tears pleading with israel to stop murdering Palestine in a live on court interview. You know it’s bad when every single ATP player is afraid to take a public stand for Palestine for fear of being attacked and canceled.
