Novak Djokovic edges this 18 yr old teen phenom Dino Prizmic from Croatia in four sets but he needed five match points at the end to finish it. And young Dino, making his Grand Slam main draw debut vs. the 24 time Grand Slam champion, fought back from a 0-4 deficit. After finishing the job, Djokovic deflected all applause to Dino after the match, respectfully pointing attention to Dino after giving him some high praise words at the net handshake.
It was another golden moment created by the tennis king for this new prince. Jim Courier asked his first question about Dino and Djokovic rambled for about a minute, saying how impressed he was by Dino in so many ways and declaring that will do big things in the future. Djokovic also acknowledged his old coach Andre Agassi in the front row and longtime friend Justin Gimelstob, who is with Agassi on a business trip.
It was also interesting and fresh to hear Djokovic actually said he wants to be in Dino’s corner and help him for the future. Funny, I don’t remember Federer or Rafa ever saying that about a young emerging star.
Djokovic is the greatest sports champion ever. And tonight was just another microcosm of it.
Here is my first article on Dino Prizmic from Summer 2023
King Novak on Prince Dino quotes: “He deserved every applause, every credit. Amazing player, so mature for his age. This is his moment. It could have been his match. He fought from 0-4 down in set four. He made me run for my money. I have many compliments for him. Amazing performance. Big kudos to him, his team, his family. He is gonna make big things in his career. I’m in his corner.”

Apparently that was Djokovic’s longest match ever in the first round of a Slam. 😳 It was probably a good way to help him shake off all the dust.
Prizmic looks like he has the makings of a top player, and maybe Marozsan too.

Oh, Scoop, do you think Djokovic really has a wrist injury? 🤔 I haven’t seen him play lately, but my guess is that if he does have one, it’s pretty minor.
Scoop Malinowski · January 14, 2024 at 8:34 pm
Sam, Prizmic is the real deal, Ljubicic was already hyping him when he was 13-14 and he proved himself tonight. Will be a lethal force in two or three years, or maybe sooner. Everything is there. Plus he’s a trendsetter, bringing back those old school small shorts from the 70s.
Scoop Malinowski · January 14, 2024 at 8:36 pm
Sam, my guess would be a very minor ache last week, now gone. But it could tweak in a long match. Didn’t see him in excruciating pain so that means it was a very mild injury. Or who knows, some even think he subconsciously tanked to de Minaur and there really is no wrist injury. Who knows.

Coco vs Schmiedlova is on now. ESPN announcers said Brad Gilbert has a cold and has not been at her practices and is not at the match. Could he have covid? It’s a good sign that they are not talking about testing him for covid or making all the espn crew wear masks. No fear of any virus, flu or head colds. Live life no fear.

Scoop Malinowski— what talent displayed by Dino Prizmic for sure, it was a superb match with its fair share of on/off nail biting moments! And Djokovic rightly praised him at the end of their match as well as asking the crowd to appreciate and applaud the newest star on the block Dino. In turn Prizmic too went on to say that he hoped that Djokovic will go on to win the tournament. I too agree with you when you say that neither Federer or Nadal ever said those kind of nice words to any of their opponents. I suppose all they ever focus on is how they have to maintain and upkeep their false image/narratives. In this regard , one would wonder as to why in tarnation has Nadal been made the brand ambassador for tennis in the Saudi capital. It could be for monetary gains as well as to further upkeep his ‘clean and humble’ image as he knows that there is not much in competition anymore. But I do wonder., besides he just became a new dad so he could better use his time more ‘richly’ so to speak! Lastly have you seen the ad of his during the tv breaks at the AO. It’s the Kia ad of which he is their ambassador. I think that the AO are missing his presence so this is one way to remind people! Besides Craig Tiley has said that he looks forward to him playing at the AO25. But first he has to be at RG24.

Cyndy, it’s curious how Djokovic is always thrown these young tigers in the first rounds of a slam – Rune, Draper, now Prizmic, while Carlos gets aged veterans. What’s disappointing about Nadal is the media is ignoring his business with Saudi while if Djokovic did it, the media would crucify him for it. Nadal was a great champion but also a puppet for the establishment.
Novak will write two books… Novak Djokovic says he plans to write 2 books, one of which will be an autobiography in which ‘a lot will be told’:
“An autobiography will come. However, before the autobiography, there will be another book that I have already started writing independently, but I will probably look for help with all that. It will be a continuation of the book ‘Serve for Victory’, it will be about nutrition, recovery, training, so more technical in nature.
And the autobiography will come one day, most likely when I finish my career. It will be done, I don’t want to rush it because there is so much to say.
A lot will be told, when I am no longer seeing these people – ha ha, just kidding of course!”

Was thinking that exact same Scoop Malinowski! That draw—- you’re absolutely right… Dino Prizmic should have been able to go a few more rounds with other players., why put him against Djokovic in first draw… Djokovic should have gotten Gasquet the veteran and Alcaraz with Prizmic or similar. Thanks for the info on the book’s writing to be done by Djokovic., I’m sure it will really sell super well as everyone (moreso by those that dislike him) especially to see what he has to say. Will check the news print in a day to see if there is any write up on Nadals new job! I suppose since he knows he won’t be winning slams etc etc anymore this is the way to do it. Not sure on how the tennis world is taking this in. Very strange. For sure
If it was Djokovic who had this very lucrative deal he would most surely be pounced upon.

Cyndy, as expected no signs of any injury or limp by Rafa at the Saudi Arabia press conference. His talk about the micro tear in his hip or leg or wherever he said it was, might have put him on crutches or in a wheel chair. Yes Djokovic would have been railroaded to hell by the jackal media if he signed any deals with Saudi Arabia, but once again Rafa gets the free pass.
Cyndy · January 16, 2024 at 11:42 am
Scoop Malinowski— suddenly Nadal doesn’t seem to be injured after doing some scans at Melbourne and led everyone to believe that he’s got another injury apart from his old ones. How can people be so dumb so as to not see through his shenanigans., hopefully all about him should emerge soon but I won’t be surprised if he just slithers away like he’s always been doing.
Scoop Malinowski · January 16, 2024 at 4:43 pm
Cyndy, Laura Robson revealed Rafa will play in Doha in Feb, probably part of this contract to promote this new endeavor in SA.
Cyndy · January 16, 2024 at 8:48 pm
Scoop Malinowski— he may be aiming to be part of the mid east contingent (more like overall boss type what with all his titles) and he probably will be opening up more RN academies in the region considering he already has one in Kuwait and one opening soon in Riyadh. He is a man with a plan(s)!!
Scoop Malinowski · January 17, 2024 at 8:38 am
Cyndy, or he’s just a figurehead. I think he’d rather be doing other things.
Sam · January 17, 2024 at 8:10 pm
Or who knows, some even think he subconsciously tanked to de Minaur and there really is no wrist injury. Who knows.
Scoop, what motivation would Djokovic have had to tank? 🤔
A lot of folks are saying that he doesn’t look like he’s in sufficient form to win this thing. What do you think?
Scoop Malinowski · January 18, 2024 at 8:11 am
Sam, he’s 36 and he should not be killing himself in some meaningless exo the week before a grand slam against a guy who is playing it as the biggest match of his life.
Sam · January 22, 2024 at 3:50 am
Scoop, true, but why did he even bother to show up for that silly exo then? 🤔
Haven’t seen his matches, but based on what I’ve heard, he seems to be cruising along pretty nicely. And he probably won’t have too much difficulty getting past Taylor Swift—unless perhaps Taylor trots out some “Carrot Girls.” 😉 It’s a daytime match, though, and the weather is supposed to be very hot (87 degrees) and humid. But at least it’s not supposed to be windy or anything.
Scoop Malinowski · January 22, 2024 at 8:35 am
Sam, probably an appearance fee and to get a couple of workout matches in before AO is my guess. Novak looks great in AO so far, very sharp, A game ready to blossom to A plus game. I see Taylor Swift pardon Fritz ) as a big danger for Novak and capable of the shock upset. Based on a few things. He had him n the ropes on Laver a couple of years ago and then lost in five, he forced Novak to summon his ultimate beast mode and had him roaring screaming. SO he can trouble Novak. Novak has beaten him since several times but Fritz is improving and I believe obsessed to beat Novak. He showed his beast mode vs. Tsitsipas, played at what he said was his ultimate level. Serving super well, groundstrokes are devastating, and he’s moving incredibly well around the court. I see this as a very very dangerous match for Novak and an upset is possible.
Sam · January 26, 2024 at 8:34 pm
Scoop, yes, he probably mainly showed up for the appearance fee.
Well, at least he wasn’t greatly troubled by Fritz, even though the latter saved all 15 BPs across the first two sets. 😳
I think that stat alone shows that something was off about Djokovic’s game in this tournament. 😬
Scoop Malinowski · January 27, 2024 at 7:44 am
Fritz and Sinner are very similar players and same body types, long arms, huge hitters. Fritz should be inspired by Sinner and may emulate him. But Fritz may need a better coach like Cahill.
Sam · January 31, 2024 at 8:23 pm
Scoop, and Fritz might also want to focus less on being the “gay rights” champion of the ATP and more on his actual tennis. 😉
Scoop Malinowski · February 1, 2024 at 7:34 am
Agree, but he did that for image and branding reasons, the establishment loved it.
Sam · February 5, 2024 at 8:55 pm
And that’s why I’m not sorry to see him lose. 😸
