  • Scoop Malinowski · January 27, 2012 at 1:05 pm

ND gets the break 4-2 and lets out a primal insane COME AWN eye bulging

  • Scoop Malinowski · January 27, 2012 at 1:07 pm

“This is just epic effort and the energy he’s getting from his box, he’s going to another level here.” BG Brad Gilbert

  • Scoop Malinowski · January 27, 2012 at 1:07 pm

Nole holds at love, 5-2 he is a machine.

  • Michael · January 27, 2012 at 1:08 pm

Kinda beat down since the 7-6 set, if you think about it, But Murray making progress. You think ?

  • Michael · January 27, 2012 at 1:09 pm

Lendl looks like he wants to jump down, tag Murray and take over.

  • Scoop Malinowski · January 27, 2012 at 1:14 pm

Murray is unlucky in that he never got the freeebie slam, always ran into a great player, Rafa got Puerta in his first, Fed got Flipoussis, Djok got Tsonga, if Murray were so fortunate he’d have won his first or second slam by now. Murray is a GREAT player don’t ever forget that.

  • Michael · January 27, 2012 at 1:16 pm

    Good point on the freebie.

You should be telling it to Dan though. I’m a Murray booster.

    And he breaks !

  • Scoop Malinowski · January 27, 2012 at 1:16 pm

Murray with the forehand winner 0-40! EPIC. The Break 4-5 EPIC Murray MURRAY

  • Scoop Malinowski · January 27, 2012 at 1:18 pm

Progress? You better believe, this is the Lendlized Murray! This is EPIC even Rocket Rod Laver is loving this

  • Scoop Malinowski · January 27, 2012 at 1:20 pm

Murray might want this need this more than Djok

  • Scoop Malinowski · January 27, 2012 at 1:21 pm

    5-5! EPIC here we go…

  • Michael · January 27, 2012 at 1:21 pm

Murray pulls it out and it’s one of those career changing matches. I know — it’s not the final. But digging out from 5-2 down in the fifth against Joker. Huge.

  • Scoop Malinowski · January 27, 2012 at 1:22 pm

Dan will get taught that lesson about Murray in Delray!

  • Scoop Malinowski · January 27, 2012 at 1:24 pm

Wow Murray is now the MACHINE! with that forehand winner 15-30 5-5 15-40 BP to serve for the finals!

  • Scoop Malinowski · January 27, 2012 at 1:25 pm

Huge Michael, Djokovic is a virtually unbeatable machine but Murray is standing his ground here amazingf

  • Scoop Malinowski · January 27, 2012 at 1:26 pm

Oh my God what a point machine vs. machine, Djok gets it back to duece! 30 shot rally

  • Scoop Malinowski · January 27, 2012 at 1:30 pm

Duece again. Lendl must get up and shout and implore Andy on not just sit there like a cigar store indian, get up LENDL do and yell something, like Djok’ friend girl just did and he won the next two points, Lendl WAKE UP

  • Michael · January 27, 2012 at 1:31 pm

This will be a tough hold after Murray blew the break points.

  • Scoop Malinowski · January 27, 2012 at 1:32 pm

Murray needs a push from his box, he aint gettin it.

  • Michael · January 27, 2012 at 1:33 pm

No. Lendl is playing the rational, thoughtful, don’t get excited coach. That this is a process. It will happen. Maybe not here but eventually. He’s trying to keep Murray focused and calm.

  • Michael · January 27, 2012 at 1:34 pm

The old back and forth screaming to and from the box is over. His mommy was a big screamer. It want helping,

  • Michael · January 27, 2012 at 1:35 pm

Good lesson in why you want to hold the last gsme even if you are dumping the fourth.

  • Steve · January 27, 2012 at 1:36 pm

Good news. We won’t have another boring Murray final.

  • Scoop Malinowski · January 27, 2012 at 1:37 pm

Murray friend girl and Lendl and box sat there like zombies and did not give Andy the energy and push he needed at the end, Djok got it from his girl and box. Great match. Murray has earned new respect. Dan will have a higher regard for Murray after this one. Epic. Djok is just an unbeatable machine now, Murray is right there.

  • Scoop Malinowski · January 27, 2012 at 1:39 pm

Nope, Sometimes you need that push, Djok got it from his girlfriend, Murray didn’t get it. I believe that was the difference, the minute difference in this clash of titans.

  • Michael · January 27, 2012 at 1:41 pm

    Murray’s girl is hotter though.

Do you really see Lendl jumping up and down and cheering. Ain’t happening. If that’s what Murray needs, and I don’t think it is, he needs to look elsewhere.

  • Michael · January 27, 2012 at 1:42 pm

Oh, and I thought it had zero impact,

  • Scoop Malinowski · January 27, 2012 at 1:45 pm

At that moment that’s what he needed. If it had zero impact, then what was the difference Michael?

  • Michael · January 27, 2012 at 2:04 pm

Djokovic was the better player ?

There is no magical element like someone wasn’t cheering loud enough. One guy was just a bit better. I actually think Lendl is of this mindset. Keep working. Get tougher mentally. No more beating yourself up during a match or having these crazy dialogues with your box. And the big win will eventually come.

People can argue that Joker simply is better. Or that he was better today. But pointing to the more involved box, for me (as BG likes to preface his opinions) is baseless.

  • Scoop Malinowski · January 27, 2012 at 2:08 pm

Djok wanted it more in the end, I dont think he was better today. It came down to who wanted it more. Djok’s box wanted it more than Murray’s box. That was clear.

  • Michael · January 27, 2012 at 2:09 pm

    See you for the finals.

Haven’t decided who I think will win yet. Historically the exhaustion factor hasn’t been that significant and Joker must think he owns Rafa like Rafa owns Fed.

I’m going to check the vegas shmagas odds to see how big a favorite Joker is.

  • Michael · January 27, 2012 at 2:14 pm

Oh, he was better. Check the stats.

Are you really introducing which box wants it more as a factor ? Does the box have to be people you know. Can you hire a group to go nuts. If we get the king of annoying boxes known as The J-Block will that trump all other boxes ? Come on. Federer has more Majors than any player and he doesn’t get jack out of Anacone or Anna Wintour,

  • Scoop Malinowski · January 27, 2012 at 2:32 pm

I saw Hrbaty hired kids from the Hamlet who went nuts for him after almost every point, it was awesome. Hrbaty loved them from the Hamlet and gave them free tix at the open, I sat right behind them, he took down Kafel who was top 3 in the world in straight sets on grandstand with those kids going ape after every one of his winning points. It was awesome. They raised Hrbaty’s level big time. Yes the box does make a difference my friend. And no Kafel did not tank he was SO frustrated by not only Hrbaty’s game but also by the wild support those college kids were giving him, it was awesome.

  • Mitch · January 27, 2012 at 2:37 pm

I think it’s good that Lendl didn’t get super animated at the end; he needs to get Murray to cut out all this looking/screaming at his box nonsense, which is a net negative for him. Maybe in that situation it would have given him a boost, but in the long run, it was for the best.

  • Steve · January 27, 2012 at 2:50 pm

A pretty girlfriend will ruin an athlete’s concentration. They should only date ugly ones. Look at the Jet’s QB & Kate Upton –no way he can concentrate on the playbook. Impossible.

  • Scoop Malinowski · January 27, 2012 at 2:51 pm

If not Lendl, SOMEONE has to play that role in the box, like Jelena did today, like those college guys did for Hrbaty. Like that rocker dude did for Wawrinka at the US Open two years ago. Like Uncle Toni tried to do for Rafa in Miami last year. Like Yuri Sharapov did for Maria and Larri Passos did for Guga. That’s all that was missing for Andy today. He is right there.

  • Steve · January 27, 2012 at 2:58 pm

It’s best to get support from the crowd, I think. Murray has that at Wimbledon.

  • Scoop Malinowski · January 27, 2012 at 3:11 pm

Steve, I think it’s more uplifting and inspiring when it comes directly from people in the box, direct eye contact, Larri Passos style. Bec Hewitt style. Murray needs a Bec Hewitt.

  • Steve · January 27, 2012 at 3:22 pm

Well at least he didn’t have 15 minutes of fireworks in the middle of his semifinal.

  • Andrew Miller · January 27, 2012 at 4:02 pm

Too bad for Murray – sounds like he really played the way he needed to and it officially a contender for slams.

  • Andrew Miller · January 27, 2012 at 5:31 pm

Can we also say that Dan’s 3 set prediction was off by two sets and that Murray actually seems like he is closing in on the big one?

  • Scoop Malinowski · January 27, 2012 at 5:42 pm

Murray is right there Andrew, I mean right there, best slam performance of his career. He’s going to get it, maybe even two this year like BG says. Murray is right there.

  • Spirit · January 27, 2012 at 5:42 pm

Andy plated great and fought great, but I will tell only one thing:
Champions find a way even when they don’t play their best.
And as far as I know, Djoko said it many times Sampras was his idol not beause the game but his mental superiority.

  • Scoop Malinowski · January 27, 2012 at 6:48 pm

Spirit, I think Murray made Djokovic not play his best, just like Dolgo did the same thing to Djok in that first set at the US Open last year. Murray is the reason Djok had to struggle. Like just yesterday I played a guy down here who I had never beaten for two full sets. I got him last week 64 54 but he retired becaue he had to go, that was our first match since a year ago. He had beaten me for years. Yesterday, he was ready and was hitting great in the beginning, he even said he felt great. But I found a way and overcame a bad start and won 63 63. He said he felt great but I was able to take him out of his rhythm and made him feel less than great. This is IMO what Murray did to Djokovic. But like you say, Djokovic is just a little mentally stronger, he has the mental edge and being the undisputed #1 doesn’t hurt.

  • Dan Markowitz · January 27, 2012 at 7:09 pm

Firstly, who the hell does the Murray character think he is causing me to be two sets off (I won’t say “wrong,” because I was right again in picking Novak) in my prediction. He should’ve gone down in straights if Djoko kept the pressure on up a break in the second set.

Secondly, I’m in love with Murray’s girlfriend. Somebody take care of my wife and Murray for me because I know we’re destined to be together.

Thirdly, how come Djoko’s girlfriend is put behind Djoko’s coaches and Murray’s in in front of his coaches?

Lendl should play the villain in the next James Bond movie.

Lastly, the was one hellava a match. But I still say, and I know maybe it’s inappropriate to bring it up here after this epic match, but I’d still Pete against any one of the Big 4 on a big match on hard courts. As well as both Djoko and Murray served, they can’t hit the spots like Pete hit and they could’ve made it so easier on themselves if they moved up and volleyed more.

Djoko is the only great player I’ve ever seen who lobs over his opponents head and doesn’t move up to take the net position. That said, the wheels on these guys are unbelievable, especially Djoko. Murray was crushing some forehands and serves.

Djoko beats Nadal like in the USO in 4 sets.

  • Scoop Malinowski · January 27, 2012 at 7:26 pm

LOL Dan, and hope Jeannie isn’t an avid T-P reader! Yeah really on the box seating assignments, you gotta put the most avid and expressive supporters in the front row. The players need that energy. But someone told me Djok’s girl Jelena is not at the top of the Team Djok hierarchy, I was told the parents didn’t want her at the 2010 US Open and she had to stay back at the house for some matches and others she stayed in the player lounge. Now it looks like the parents and brothers aren’t around. I think Djok has to put her it he front row based on her emotional and inspiring contributions today. Pete couldn’t beat this Djokovic, Djokovic moves and returns too well, better than Agassi and we saw Agassi whoop Pete twice down under. Pete’s Nike Air Oscillates would have holes in the soles from chasing Djokovic’s laser beams all over the court.

  • Spirit · January 27, 2012 at 8:07 pm

It’s true Scoop, you are that good that your opponent allow you to be.
But believe me, today Djoko wasn’t at his best.

  • Steve · January 27, 2012 at 8:19 pm

Woop Sampras? In five and four sets with tie breaks? Scoop you skew your memories a bit.

  • Scoop Malinowski · January 27, 2012 at 8:25 pm

Maybe Murray did not permit Djokovic to be at his best today Spirit : ) Murray was amazing today.
