QA About Facing Novak Djokovic Book

Cover art by Alberto Ramirez Saurez.

Since the American mainstream tennis media probably won’t be requesting any interviews about my 17th book “Facing Novak Djokovic” there is always the option to interview myself …

Scoop Malinowski Interviews Scoop Malinowski

Question: What inspired you to write this book?

Scoop Malinowski:  I loved the education process of working on Facing Federer, Facing McEnroe, Facing Nadal, Facing Serena Williams/Steffi Graf, Facing Hewitt, Facing Marat Safin, Facing Bjorn Borg, Facing Guillermo Vilas, Facing Sampras, Facing Andy Murray, Marcelo Rios: The Man We Barely Knew, so I decided to pursue doing an edition on Facing Novak Djokovic too. Probably the two biggest inspirations are the pleasure it is to learn so many inside stories about what made Novak Djokovic special and also the positive review Tennis Magazine’s Steve Tignor gave my Facing Federer book, he called it “addictive reading.” So I continue to do my books in the similar basic format of Facing Federer.

Question: What were some of the best interviews in the book?

Scoop Malinowski: There were many. Usually the lower ranked lesser known players are more revealing and thoughtful and they give more insightful details. Ruben Bemelmans, Jack Sock and Paolo Lorenzi come to mind first.

Question: Highlight moment of the process of creating the book?

Scoop Malinowski: The highlight moment doesn’t come during the process it comes after it’s finished. Creating is suffering. There are many layers of editing and arranging collected information and writing into a coherent, enjoyable read. Many of the interviews were thrilling to learn insights of what makes Novak Djokovic such a unique and mighty champion, one who overcame and conquered Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. This book gives the reader a sense of why and how Djokovic managed to accomplish the seemingly impossible. But the best part of making a book is when the first positive responses and reviews come in. In the first week the book earned three five star reviews on amazon, people called it amazing, awesome, said they loved it. Three total strangers who found out about the book on Twitter. Twitter responses have been fantastic. That is the best part of the process of doing a book, when the hope of positive feedback is fulfilled and you discover readers love the book.

Facing Novak Djokovic is available at amazon for $9.99 and $5.99 kindle version.

    Interesting interview.

Just curious, Scoop—do you think that interviewer asked you anything inappropriate? 😉
