Notable Tennis Teens Making Waves

Victoria Bervid is 15 years old and stands six-foot-three and already ranked WTA 900 something. She recently played Alexandra Krunic, who beat Barbora Krejcikova at US Open last year, in an ITF pro match and lead by a set and a break before crumbling. But an observer of the match with Krunic said the Czech blond has the best forehand in the WTA right now and her serve, when it’s on target, devastating. Bervid is coached by former ATP veterans Sander Groen, primary, and Jan Vacek, a couple of times a week.

Alina Korneeva is ITF no. 2 junior. As a 16 yr old she won AO and Roland Garros juniors and the ITF WTT Junior Finals this past week in Chungdu beating ITF no. 1 Clervie Ngounoue 62 76.

Ksenia Efremova of France is a known prodigy for years, still just 14 she is already good enough to hit with an ATP 360. She also plays piano and does ballet. To show how tough minded she is… at age 12 in 2021, she won seven matches in a row to win a U14 titles losing only 17 games, while her father passed away the same week. Her confidence is also strong: “I want to win all four Grand Slams. And I want to be No. 1 in the world at 16 years old.”

ITF no. 10 junior Federico Cina of Italy has already hit with Tsitsipas, Rune, Carlos, Rublev, Ruud, Norrie, Jabeur and Emma. That’s a lot of tennis greatness to absorb. His favorite player? Novak Djokovic.

18 year old Dino Prizmic is already ranked 155 in the ATP. In Stockholm last week he qualified (defeated Machac and Skatov) and reached the round of 16, beating world no. 30 Jiri Lehecka 63 75 in the first round. He lost to Elias Ymer 36 63 26. He won his first ATP Challenger in August in Banja Luka Bosnia & Herzegovina.
