Martina Hingis Wants More WTA Competition

P1011120
Former world no. 1 and five time major title winner Martina Hingis wants to play on the WTA tour again. Hingis will return to professional tennis at the Carlsbad WTA event where she will play doubles with Daniela Hantuchova.

This news comes just days after Hingis was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode, Island.

Hingis was also in the news last week for marital problems after her husband spoke publicly about the alleged rampant infidelity of Hingis.

Hingis has previously been suspended from the pro tour because of a positive cocaine drug test.

One can only imagine what kind of additional trouble the always controversial Hingis will manage to get tangled up in once her professional tennis career resumes…

Well if she sticks to doubles she’ll be okay.
I have the DVD of her playing Henin in comeback #1 and Henin crushed her. Hingis simply didn’t have the fire power for the modern game.

If she’s going to try singles let’s hope she can hit bigger these days.

I heard this MIT be coming. Navatilova lauded doubles late into her 40’s, and while Hingis isn’t the doubles player her namesake was, this should be a boon fr women’s tennis.

Hingis can once again thrive in singles, just ask Kimiko Date Steve.

Not if she played the way she did during comeback #1 Scoop. It did not go well.

It’s a pity as she plays beautiful tennis.

Krumm? Sure she can be #65 in the world too. Usually when a champion plays they want to compete for slams.

Can you un-retire if you are Hall of Fame? Hingis can equal Kimiko, hit the top 50. Better maybe.

There was speculation that she would play mixed doubles with Federer at the London Olympics, but apparently she couldn’t because her drug ban hadn’t worn off.

Steve, Fed says he doesn’t really play for records now, he plays for the love of the game. Maybe Hingis feels the same way.

Andrew, I saw Hingis battle Venus in WTT last summer and she was somewhat competitive. Not sure if she can make top 50, there are a lot of power hitters who play like there’s no tomorrow. Not sure if Hingis really wants to battle and grind as hard as it will require for her to make top 50. Only she knows if she wants it that bad.

Maybe Scoop but I don’t think Fed would enjoy being #65 in the world. She had a lot of confidence for her 1st comeback. I think she was a little surprised. Now she knows what to expect.

Just basing on strategy, point construction. One of few WTA players with greatest knowledge of court, spins, shots, etc. If her mother is coaching, she should have a winning record. Scoop sounds about right on the top 50. Hingis had trouble always with the power elite, and now it is nearly everyone you play.
