Looks Like Ryan Harrison Is Done

Former top American prospect Ryan Harrison appears to have ended his ATP career. The Roland Garros doubles champion of 2017 has not played on the ATP World Tour since early August at Cary, NC Challenger where he lost in the second round of qualies to Australian Blake Ellis 36 63 46.

The 31 year old is ranked in the 800s. Harrison’s match record this year is 6-7.

His best ranking was no. 40 which was in 2017, the year Harrison won his only career ATP singles title in Memphis and the French Open doubles with Michael Venus vs Donald Young and Santiago Gonzalez.

Harrison earned $4.8m in career prize money and his ATP career match record stands at 118-159. In 2012 Ryan and younger brother Christian reached the quarterfinals of the US Open doubles.

In 2008 at age fifteen, Harrison became he third-youngest player since 1990, after Gasquet and Nadal, to win an ATP level match. In Houston, Harrison stunned world no. 130 Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay at the US Men’s Clay Court Championships. At the time Harrison, a qualifier ranked 1000, became only the tenth player in ATP history to win a match before the age of sixteen.

A defining moment of Harrison’s career was at 2010 US Open where he beat Ivan Ljubicic in the first round and then held three match points vs Sergey Stakhovsky at 6-3 in the fifth set tiebreaker but failed to convert and lost the match. His best wins were against Marcos Bagdhatis, Viktor Troicki, Grigor Dimitrov, Ivo Karlovic, Milos Raonic.

Harrison also won four ATP doubles titles, two each with Michael Venus and Matthew Ebden.

Harrison resides in Bradenton, FL and is actively involved with the Harrison family’s academy, Harrison Performance Tennis with his dad Pat, sister Madison.

His 2nd serve was respected by other pros and touted by tennis gurus as well. The rumor on the interwebs was that when he turned to the USTA for guidance and coaching help it destroyed his game and potential. Do you have info on that?

Steve, Not direct evidence on Harrison USTA but it probably was a contributing factor, as it was to Kozlov’s development. I do have inside information on that.

Okay. You can maybe fill me in next time I see you unless you publish a Facing Rayan Harrison book before then. ๐Ÿ™‚

Steve okay, there are no current plans to do a Facing Ryan Harrison but as we know anything can happen, who knows even a Facing Gasquet book would be interesting.
