How Matija Pecotic Met Mike Tyson!

This week at Elizabeth Moore Sarasota Open ATP Challenger I asked Matija Pecotic, who beat Preston Brown in qualies yesterday 60 62, What was the best you ever felt on court? “Junior year at Princeton, like from March to May. I refused to lose. I felt like I was going to win the match before I stepped on the court. I beat the Yale guy 60 60, the Cornell and Dartmouth guys by similar scores. Back then I was listening to Mike Tyson audio on my headphones before my matches, for inspiration. Matija actually recites the famous Tyson speech after his fight to send a message to Lennox Lewis: I’m the best ever. I’m the most brutal and vicious, and most ruthless champion there’s ever been. There’s no one can stop me. Lennox is a conqueror? No, I’m Alexander, he’s no Alexander. I’m the best ever! There’s never been anybody as ruthless! I’m Sonny Liston, I’m Jack Dempsey. There’s no one like me. I’m from their cloth. There’s no one that can match me. My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable, and I’m just ferocious. I want your heart! I want to eat his children! Praise be to Allah!

When asked if he ever met Tyson, Pecotic confirmed he had indeed. Friendly with Venus Williams from some training together, one day he asked her to go out to eat in Palm Beach and who rolls in shortly after they get there – Mike Tyson. And then a short while later in came Michael Jordan.

Pecotic said he invited Tyson to his match at Delray Beach Open and showed a photo of Matija on court and in the front row background is Tyson giving him a fist pump!

Matija has also hit with Tyson’s daughter Milan who is competing on the junior circuit and is a UTR 7 right now.
