Fritz Analyzes Why He Can’t Solve The Djokovic Puzzle

Taylor Fritz summoned his best effort vs Novak Djokovic last night but it resulted in another loss, in four sets 76 46 62 63, to the Serbian juggernaut.

Fritz is now 0-9 in his career vs Djokovic and he explained in detail what he finds so difficult to overcome on the court with the 24 time Grand Slam titan.

“He’s so fast. He doesn’t miss a lot of balls.”

“Makes you work and hit quality shots to win points.”

“It’s also the lack of free points he gives you.”

“Even when I’m going after my second serves, 105 miles an hour and jamming him, he’s still putting the returns on the baseline.”

“You have to work for everything. You don’t get those free points.”

“No (I don’t see any signs of weakness or decline). From what I recall from the first time that we played, to me, he’s just as good as ever.”

John McEnroe, analyzing for ESPN, commented after the match that he thinks Djokovic is “tougher to beat now than he was five or six years ago.”

Novak’s quotes: “The conditions were tough. Taylor was making me run, I was on the back foot… I struggled physically, mentally, emotionally. The third set I managed to start well. The sun came down and I felt much better.”

Barbara Schett: “You took his legs, his mind, his soul…”

Novak: “I took his legs but he took my legs too. He played great.”

Djokovic is now two matches away from winning his 25th Grand Slam title.

Fritz may get inspired by seeing how Sinner did it. Fritz has a similar body and game as Sinner. But what Fritz needs is a coach who has exp at the very top of the game, like Cahill.
