First Review For My New Vitas Gerulaitis Book

Peter Figura: Hi Scoop, LOVE your book, and what I like the most is personal touch, and the impact that Vitas had on people. I like parts of Sampras, McEnroe, and Pat Cash. And what is really important how people remember the moment he died. Believe or not I am one of those who remember hearing on the radio this terrible news. I could not believe this and remember searching in the news for a confirmation – really hoping that the news was a hoax. And I remember teaching tennis that same day, with my client from New York. He had tears in his eyes, And then he hit an amazing shot – we were playing points – and said “this one was for Vitas.” He was such a beautiful soul, and such a personality – I loved his commentating. Really happy you wrote this book, and I am proud to be a small part of it. Somehow I think there is still room for a feature article about the other site of Vitas – charity work, commentating, etc.

Vitas Gerulatis was an amazing tennis player. A grand Slam champion, ranked as high as #3 in the World, and this was all playing at the same time as Borg, Connors, McEnroe, and Vilas. As one of the players of that era – John Lloyd – said, no one has contributed more than him to make tennis the coolest sport of its generation. Yet, Gerulaitis is almost forgotten. Scoop Malinowski in his book managed to recreate the brilliance of Gerulaitis tennis, his contribution to the game, and above all, his genuine kindness, generosity, and a spirited soul. Through many conversation with people who new Gerulaitis, or were impacted by him, Malinowski was ab le to create a beautiful portrait of a player who should never be forgotten. A wonderful read, about equally wonderful person. A must have item in every tennis fan library.
