Cool Courts

1010-173734

There are a lot of unique and interesting tennis courts on this planet. We’re starting a new feature where we will show Tennis-prose.com readers some of the coolest courts we come across in our tennis travels.

The debut of this series are the tennis courts located in the Washington Heights section of New York City in Harlem almost under the George Washington Bridge. These courts are hard to get to as you have to walk or bike down long paths and footbridges from the Port Authority bus terminal starting point at the New York base of the GW Bridge.

After the ten to fifteen minute trek down to the courts you will find ten courts to play on and no badge checker. The courts are usually full on weekends all day long (get there early) but weekdays there are always courts open. The courts are free of charge at all times. The courts are about a 40 minute bike ride from midtown Manhattan and about a 25 minute subway ride on the A and l train (not counting the 5 minute walk from the station).

The photo view of these courts is from the GW Bridge bike lane. That’s the Hudson River on the right and midtown Manhattan in the distance. On the other side of the Hudson River is Fort Lee and Cliffside Park NJ.

Next weeks “Cool Court” will be the only court in Atlantic City near the boardwalk.

I’ve run on the bike path but never seen these courts. Will have to an eye out for them the next time.

Mitch you have to run the path all the way up to the GW Bridge to see the courts, they are right on the bike path as you can see in the photo.

Cool! Like the “Tennis destinations” on Tennis Channel.

Btw, for the ATP Draw Challenge — I was able to score a nice 90 percentile:

Thanks Gaurang, now that you mention it yeah it is kinda sorta faintly remotely like Maylene Ramey’s classic show. That show never gets old does it. Also, I registered for the ATP Draw Challenge under tennis prose and will play it for Paris.

You could also create a group called “Tennis-Prose.com Fans” or something — so that all of us can join that group. The groups are simple — basically they can be used to quickly see the winning scores among a set of people who’ve joined that group.

Create it fast or I will ๐Ÿ™‚

Gaurang, please do create that group, go for it, thank you )
