Felix Fortunes Changing in 2022

Before this year Felix Auger-Aliassime failed to win in eight ATP tournament finals. But this year everything has changed, the Canadian just won Basel 75 63 vs. Holger Rune for his fourth title of the year and third straight since losing in his first match at Astana 64 76 to Roberto Bautista Agut.

Since Astana, Felix won in Florence 250 beating JJ Wolf in the final, then the next week in Antwerp 250 topping Sebi Korda in the championship match and yesterday in Basel 500 was his third title in three weeks.

Also in Basel, the world no. 8 beat no. 28 Miomir Kecmanovic 61 60, which he said was the finest performance of his career.

Felix, who lost in the second round of US Open to Jack Draper 64 64 64, may be on the verge of becoming the superstar force many tennis observers predicted after he won is first ATP points in 2015 as a fourteen year old phenom.

With four full years of experience on the ATP World Tour and a more effective and dominant serve – he was not broken once all week in Basel – the 22 year old has overcome the choke mentality which caused him to lose his first eight ATP singles finals without even winning a set (0-16).

So excited for this development. I really like Felix, like favorite player level and was losing confidence in him. I think the sky is the limit with him and he seems like a super nice person. Hope playing on court 2 doesn’t dim his first match hopes.

Hey did you notice Arthur Fils beat Fognini in qualities, then lost tio him when he was the lucky loser? Weird when that happens, seems pretty rare, back to back like that

Matt, yes Felix has taken a big step this year, four titles after going 0-8 in finals before this year. He’s a different player now. I hear Uncle Toni was not there at any of the three wins over the three weeks. He looks amazing to me in the highlights I’ve seen, will win a major in 23 or 24, maybe more. Fils I know about since he beat a friend’s son from NJ at Orange Bowl 2020 from MP down, then I Biofiled him in Sarasota this year where he was playing qualies. He looks like a future star and these two epic marathons vs a desperate/fighting-for-survival Fognini prove he has a very bright future.
