Patty Schnyder Still Battling at 39

Former WTA top ten star Patty Schnyder hasn’t give up pro tennis yet.

She’s 39 now and ranked 146 in the world. The Swiss lefty has played nine events this year, compiling a 9-9 record. She lost to Simona Halep 62 61 in Fed Cup and she lost to Claire Liu 76 64 sets in Charleston qualifying.

Patty was ranked 7 in the world in 2005 and has won 605 career WTA singles matches, against 401 losses.

Her last event was this month in St Gauvens France, a $60,000 event, where she won a round 60 62 against Brit Eden Silva but then lost next round to 18 year old Katarina Zavatska 60 46 26.

Could Schnyder qualify and win a round at a major?

She tried in Australia but lost first round qualis to Bernarda Pera 67 36. She lost in the second round of US Open qualies last year to Nicole Gibbs 6-4 in the third.

Could Fernando Verdasco have copied this raven’s swooping forehand. Lefties from the batcave.

Lefty forehands always look alike, they all hit it similarly, no matter the height of the player. Kvitova has the biggest arm swoop. Schnyder played like Rios, she had the same tempo. Verdasco is more intense, more tenacious.
