Sandgren Plays Kazakstan

American former AO quarterfinalist Tennys Sandgren has changed his 2022 strategy to only play pro tennis tournaments in the United States due to the pandemic travel restrictions.

Now ranked 180 in the world, and coming off first round losses at Sarasota, Tallhassee and Savannah Challengers, Sandgren decided to play the Kazakstan Challenger this week and was top seed. But he lost first round to a 20 year old American alternate ranked 358 named Emilio Nava 63 64.

Sandgren, who had seven match points on Roger Federer at the 2020 AO, has a match record of 5-10 in 2022 (0-3 at ATP World Tour level). His career ATP match record is 47-75.

Ranked 41 in the world in 2019, Sandgren won his only ATP singles title in Auckland that same year.
