The Ugliest Moments In Pro Tennis

Monica Seles 1991.jpg

In no particular order:

Monica Seles being stabbed by Gunter Parche in Hamburg during a changeover during her match against Magdalena Maleeva in 1993.

David Nalbandian kicking an ad sign in front of a linesperson’s chair during grass court season, which subsequently smashed into the official’s shin  causing a bloody wound.

Serena Williams threatening to kill a female linesperson for calling a footfault on her at US Open on Ashe Stadium.

Serena Williams threatening to shove a ball down the chair umpire’s throat at US Open on Ashe Stadium.

Serena Williams extended verbal abuse and bullying of Carlos Ramos at US Open on Ashe Stadium.

Seeing the suffering of Michelle Larcher De Brito crying uncontrollably on the court and during changeovers while blowing a 61 50 lead against Elena Svitolina at US Open qualies when the Ukrainian was just an unknown 17 year old.

Andre Agassi’s snot rockets.

Bethanie Mattek Sands blowing out her knee at Wimbledon last year and screaming in agony after she came to the net to hit a volley.

The Roland Garros crowd turning against Martina Hingis after she emphatically questioned a mark on the clay by the sideline vs Steffi Graf in the final. Hingis proceeded to blow the set and break lead she held and the match. The crowd became hostile to Hingis, costing the Swiss Miss what would have been her first and only French Open singles title.

The Australian Open crowd booing all time great champion Rafael Nadal after he took an extended bathroom break for a supposed back injury while down a set and break to Stan Wawrinka in the 2014 final.  Wawrinka’s first major title was overshadowed by the controversy.

Next week we will feature some of the Most Beautiful Moments in Pro Tennis…
