First & Last Pro Matches: Tina Pisnik

Resuming our “First & Last Pro Matches” series with former WTA no. 29 Tina Pisnik of Slovenia, a 2000 and 2004 Olympian and winner of one WTA singles title (Bol, Croatia, defeated Amelie Mauresmo 76 76 in the final in 2000)…

Tina Pisnik: “First – Miami Open in 1999 (age 19), I qualified from pre-qualies for main draw and lost second round.”

In qualies, Pisnik defeated Larissa Schaerer, Elena Dementieva and Christina Papadaki. In the main draw she beat Corina Morariu in the first round 75 60 before losing second round to Conchita Martinez 62 61.

“I believe the last one was July 2005.”

According to the ITF web site, Pisnik lost her last WTA match in Moderna, Italy in July 2005 to Anastasia Yakimova 63 76 (7-2).

Pisnik’s career was cut short by a car accident which caused a neck injury that needed surgery.

Pisnik scored singles wins against such players as: Anna Kournikova, Barbora Strycova, Virginie Razzano. Mauresmo, Magdalena Maleeva, Jelena Dokic, Lisa Raymond, Amanda Coetzer, Ai Sugiyama, Anna Chakvetadze, Flavia Pennetta, Elena Likovtseva, Marion Bartoli, Patty Schnyder, Kim Clijsters, Gisela Dulko and Francesca Schiavone.

Today Pisnik coaches tennis at Northbook Racquet Club in Northbrook, IL.
