Sampras On His Grand Slam Record Being Broken

I found this You Tube interview by Pat Cash with Pete Sampras from 2016 of Pistol Pete sharing his thoughts when Roger Federer won his fifteenth Grand Slam to break his record of fourteen.

“When I saw Roger do it at Wimbledon, I was resigned to it,” said the seven-time champion of Wimbledon and five-time US Open king. “Sure, I would have loved for my fourteen to last forever but it was meant to be broken. Roger not only passed me, he got seventeen, Rafa fourteen and Novak eleven. Three guys could pass me in one decade or pretty much fifteen years time. It’s incredible. I didn’t see it coming. Thought my fourteen was going to last forever.”

Federer ended up being surpassed by both Nadal and Djokovic. Federer won 20 Grand Slams, while Rafa is at 22 and Djokovic won his 23rd at Roland Garros this spring.
