Filipino Explains Eala’s Slow Progress

The Filipino star Alexandra Eala, who trains at Rafael Nadal Academy, has been progressing up the WTA ranks but slowly. The former junior Grand Slam champ of 2022 US Open is a big name in tennis, she’s sponsored by Nike and has done fashion magazine modeling gigs. But her WTA results have not happened yet. One Filipino tennis insider, who requested anonymity suggested the handling of 17 year old Eala’s tennis career is mistake-filled.

“Eala feels and thinks she is a star now because everybody here in the Philippines think she achieved big results but to us its not a feat yet. She allows herself not to continue training and goes to these awards presentations given in Philippines instead of putting the hours of work in Nadal academy and honing her skills.”

“Eala must learn from Djokovic and Nadal how they put in the work and also her diet. She must skip American junk foods and greasy Filipino foods. Start a gluten free diet and vegetables lose more weight.”

Eala has also won two junior Grand Slams in doubles – 2020 Australian Open and 2021 Roland Garros.

Currently ranked 214 (highest Filipino ranked pro tennis player ever). Eala played 2023 Australian Open qualies and lost in the first round to veteran lefty Misaki Doi in three sets. She also won two quali matches in the WTA Hua Hin tournament but lost first round to Tatjana Maria.

Eala’s only WTA Tour win so far was in 2021 vs Paula Ormaechea in Romania as a wildcard. She has won two ITF titles – one in Manacor in 2021 and one in Thailand in 2022.
