Sharapova can use gamesmanship but Ana can’t

anaiv Sharapova and Ivanovic battled all night in an unforgettable court war filled with drama, gamesmanship, screaming, sarcastic mockery, a timeout, choking and finally a three set 75 in the third triumph by Ivanovic. What’s wrong with Djokovic in this video?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qj8dZj0rT1E At the Citi Open last week I did a Biofile with a player who showed me this video on his phone, for his funny tennis memory. After viewing it I was asked by the player and his coach what I thought was so affecting Djokovic's form and coordination. Continue to read full article...

Raonic Wins Citi Open

0208-130837 Milos Raonic won his sixth career ATP title by defeating countryman Vasek Pospisil 6l 64 in the Citi Open Finals. With the win, Raonic will move up to a career high #6 in the world. The big serving Canadian got out of the gates early once again. "It’s great the way it started," said Raonic. "I couldn’t have asked for more. I had a chance to break in every single game in that first set. Then I continued to play solid after that. All in all, a very good performance and an important moment for me Continue to read full article...

Citi Open Saturday

0208-130837 Paes and Groth did it again. Groth was broken in the very first game, which he commenced with a double fault. Then on the second point Paes netted a second overhead. Paes was unusually off, missing volleys and various shots. But in the second set Paes showed us the real Leander Paes. Perhaps sparked by embarrassment by his subpar play or scattered Come on Leanders from around the stadium, Paes was vintage the rest of the way. Continue to read full article...

DY Stuns Anderson, Citi Open Friday

0108-152156 Kristina Mladenovic was surely the heavy favorite to beat Kurumi Nara for a spot in the Citi Open semis. But the striking French woman lost badly 63 6l. After the match Mladenovic was devastated. She marched all the way to the last practice court corner - which is in view from the back of our press tent - and she promptly broke two Wilson Stream racquets, one was badly mangled. And Kiki was clearly crying with her head in a towel. Her coach, also a tall woman, was trying to talk with her or berate her, it was hard to tell from our distance across the court. But Kiki partly had her back to her while sitting in her chair, and was waving her arm at her, as if saying Just shut up. Continue to read full article...

Raonic Edges Hewitt at Citi Open

3107-183624 Milos Raonic was pinpoint accurate especially with his serve, taking down Lleyton Hewitt 76 76. Raonic blasted eight aces in the first two games, and eventually eighteen for the first set. After the match Raonic asked ATP stat maven Greg Sharko if it's a one-set ace record. With less artillery but more savvy, Hewitt scrapped and hung in there and forced two tiebreaks but he faltered early in both, coughing up vital mini breaks with two makeable forehand misses in the second set tiebreak. The first one evoked a shriek "Noooooooo," from the still super feisty Aussie. Continue to read full article...
