Hewitt warmed up with doubles partner Chris Guccione for about an hour before the match on P court one.

Klahn is wearing Head attire, blue shirt, yellow shorts and white cap and red/white/blue head shoes. Hewitt has white shorts, blue top, white cap on forward not backwards, and white Yonex shoes. It’s hot here at just after one in the early afternoon.

Klahn serves to open and makes Hewitt net a second serve, which is rare from Hewitt. Klahn hits two aces, one-love.

Hewitt serves and hits two double faults. The sun is not in his eyes though. But he holds one all.

Hewitt holds two all.

A ballkid moves at back wall provoking Hewitt to pause and say “Sorry mate.” Klahn then double faults an inch long in deuce court, l5-30.

I notice light, faint grunts or breathing sounds from Hewitt now during baseline rallies. He hits a forehand long.

Hewitt hits a nice backhand pass up the line which Klahn volleys awkwardly into net. There’s the first come on from Hewitt, 3-2.

Klahn hits a backhand lob winner over Hewitt. Hewitt hits a 75 mph second serve and can’t handle the reply for love 30. Hewitt tries a serve and volley but he nets BH volley into net 0-40. Backhand wide and Klahn fist pumps as he breaks back. 3-3.

Klahn nets a backhand and Hewitt has the set. Another break,. Norman claps his hands for his pal.

Klahn sails a forehand long, Hewitt holds l-0. Hewitt breaks again 2-0 and gives a come on to his box. Much much more fire and intensity this match from Hewitt compared to the strangely passive effort vs. Russell last week in Memphis, which Hewitt says his shoulder was bothering him.

Hewitt hits a volley winner and gives a silent fist pump to his box. The master is back now.

A successful serve and volley at deuce by Hewitt evokes another Come on. Serve winner for 3-0 and another come on.

They trade holds, 4-l

Thought klahn fh was clean ! Seemed to have a quick trigger on the fh and serve. Misjudged the klahn game.
