Kyrgios Criticism Is Absurd

cc

Nick Kyrgios is taking a lot of heat for his court behavior and the tanking of the one game vs. Gasquet, out of frustration.

I will say just this in defense of Kyrgios: I really don’t see what is so bad about what Kyrgios has done. He had a bit of a meltdown in a big match at age 20. McEnroe Connors Agassi Federer Murray all had meltdowns too. I think the color, pizzazz and theater Kyrgios is injecting into the sport is a blessing and a big time boon, he’s dramatic, controversial, unpredictable, charismatic and a compelling figure. Would you prefer to see him act like Raonic? Imagine an ATP top 25 if everyone behaved like Raonic. Nothing against Raonic but one Milos is enough. You will see a lot more drama excitement action and emotion at a Kyrgios match.

Anyone who dares to question or criticize the fighting heart of a man who saved nine match points against Richard Gasquet and then win the match last year at Wimbledon, is a ninny.

Enjoy the mens quarterfinals everyone!

My picks are Djokovic, Simon, Wawrinka and Murray.

Kyrgios is young, but at this point in his career, he has to prove he is not Monfils 2.0. Has to keep his head on straight for 7 matches. Wont believe it, until ai see it

I am sorry but Kyrgios is creating big bad rep about himself and that will push people away from him. People that he needs to get better. I give him benefit of doubt but he is following Tomic’s road to oblivion of a player in Top 10 – 50 for ever. His forehand stroke is complicated and requires perfect timing, it will break as he will age. I hope he looses his rankings and gets out of Top 100 this year because that would provide reset point for him and fresh start. As long as he is staying in Top 20- 50 nothing will change.

Harold, Kyrgios is far more advanced than Monfils at the same age, he’s shown he can beat the very best players already, Monfils didn’t do that early in his career. Remember, Kyrgios is still in his first full year on the ATP Tour, it takes years to learn the ropes and what needs to be done and how things need to be handled. I’m sure we will see him mature on and off court.

    Federer defended Kyrgios.

Gee, has Gasquet finally put it all together? Is Gasquet about to pull off the Wowrinka of 2015, which would be the biggest shock of the decade IMO. Gasquet looking good here up a set on Stanimal. Or should I say Gasquetnimal?

Now why would you pick Simon, Scoop, a player who doesn’t volunteer to go to net, against a world No 2 who loves the net and whose illustrious, serve-volley coach has got him up there even more? Same with Gasquet. Why would he not be competitive against Stanimal on grass given his net skills and willingness to go forward?

When I saw that Gasquet had just triumphed over Stan, my first thought was “WaWa Go Home” … sounds like a bad NY Post headline, I know 🙂

Wow nice victory for Gasquet. He played really. I watched parts of the match. I have never admired Gasquet’s backhand so much. I thought his backhand was actually better than Stan’s!!!!

I was happy when Gasquet won… because now I am sure that Novak will reach the finals! 😉 Novak is almost guaranteed to win against Gasquet, but if Stan would have come through, then it would have been 50-50. Especially right now, there would have been some doubt in Novak’s head that he can loose to Stan, and Stan would have had that extra confidence edge. Now if Novak wins this slam, and Wawrinka has already yesterday to QF, Novak will regain the edge of confidence back for their future encounters.

Thought Fed would have his flat Fed performance, and Simon has beaten him before and seemed to be in top form. Fed is still Fed though, he manhandled Simon. Shocked by Gasquet, the performance of his career today. Stan wasn’t quite full throttle Stanimal, reason being I think Stanimal thrives being the underdog and today he was heavy favorite. Big difference. Novak was awesome, Murray also, and will be out for blood on Fed for the humiliating WTF beat down.

Fed will beat Murray. He’s 4-1 against Muzz in slams. Gasquet was wonderful today, but Wawa kept on chipping his return of serves back. PMac said he should’ve stepped back and wailed on Gasquet’s slow second deliveries, but for some reason, he rarely did. Stan is not a great grass player. Yes, it’s going to be either a Fed-Djoko or Djoko-Muzz repeat.

Will anyone watch Muguruza or whatever her name and Radwanska? Talk about an uninteresting semis. Serena-Sharapova doesn’t get my blood stirring either. What’s going to happen when Serena retires? Who’s going to watch women’s tennis. Is there any young women’s player out there who has dynamic appeal? I can’t think of one.

When Serena retires in 2020 or 2025 it will be wide open for many players which will be interesting to see who can rise to the top. Don’t see Serena retiring any time soon, she is loving every minute of her dominance and seems to be completely addicted to winning. I see Serena competing into her 40s like Martina Navratilova.

I have a feeling Murray will do it tomorrow, the vengeance factor combined with all the motivation to win another major. The Bjorkman factor. Could be a classic battle.

  • EddietheEagle · July 9, 2015 at 3:57 pm

Federer will not beat Murray. He’s not going to outlast Murray for one and two, Murray isn’t going to let himself get overwhelmed by Roger again as he was at the O2. Murray will drag the match out if needs be. The longer it goes on the more it plays into Murray’s hands. Roger’s best chance will come on Murray’s second serve and during the exchanges, if he can keep Murray back behind the baseline where his mental state becomes less aggressive and his game more ragged.

Djokovic totally dominant as we all expected. Now on to the main event Fed vs Murray, this clash of titans surely will make up for lack of drama of the first SF. I’m picking Murray.

Bad loss for your alleged future Slam winner in DC. Losing to the 115th ranked player..Guess he wishes he was in Miami w/ Weekend oBernie

Kokkinakis losing to Kukushkin was a bad omen for the Aussies, Kyrgios lost a tight one to Nedovyesov with the added pressure of being down 0-1 hounding him. We saw how tough the Kazaks were in Davis Cup last year, pushing the Swiss in the semis, even beating Fedstan in the doubles. Now it’s up to Groth/Hewitt to right the ship in doubles. I’m sure the Tomic distraction factor has not helped the Aussies, Harold.
