Bryans Discuss Big Showdown with Quizner at Miami Open Today

BBart

The Bryan Brothers defeated Anderson/Chardy by winning six straight points in the super tiebreaker from 4-6 down. It won’t get any easier tomorrow in the semis when the Bryans will face John Isner and Sam Querrey who upset Rojer and Tecau in straight sets.

Bob Bryan shared his thoughts on the tough task of facing Quizner. He said it’s a light-hearted friendly battle, until the first point…

“I keep telling him, You’re gonna get us some time. Maybe it will be tomorrow. In the locker room we laugh about it (playing each other). We’re laughing until basically the first point, and then it’s not so… after we see the first ace go by us.”

“But we throw stuff at them that makes them as uncomfortable as well. It will be just a few opportunities on each side, whoever takes them. Luckily, we’ve taken the small number of opportunities we’ve had in the past and they’ve probably let a few squander. They had the match points on us in Madrid. There’s been an awful lot of super tiebreakers.”

“(Asking Greg Sharko standing nearby) what’s our record, 8-0 or 9-0? (A reporters says 11-0.) We’ve played John with different partners. With Quizner it’s close to ten probably but a lot closer, most of them have been super breakers. So we gotta be ready to hold down the fort.”

I ask Bob which team do they least like to play, thinking he might say Quizner because of their awesome serving. But he has a different answer:

“There’s not many doubles teams we look forward to playing. Everyone’s tough. The margins are so small. It doesn’t matter who it is. Nestor is the one guy we’ve lost to 25 times. He’s always never fun to play. We’re always playing him in big matches. And no one’s beaten us over 20 times and he’s beaten us 25. Probably when he’s 50 maybe it will be fun to play him. There’s no easy matches anymore.”

The winner of the Bryans vs. Quizner semi will meet the winner of the Sock/Pospisil vs. Melo/Soares semi, in the Miami Open doubles final.

Fillin’ up at the confidence tank! Doubles matters for good singles players…it’s extra practice and extra confidence.

    A win’s a win. No matter where.

Unfortunately Querrey choked at the end of both sets. Missed a BH volley at 30-all in the 65 game, then netted BH return to go to TB. Sam missed a high BH volley there, just tipping it at 5-5 to give the Bs set point. Then he missed the return to lose the set. Q also got broke twice in the second set. Isner played very well. Q has to pick it up.
