The Agony of the Zverev Brothers

Serena and Venus are okay with competing against each other. They have done it enough times as professionals and their sisterhood is still intact. There were no public explosions or controversies. The Melzers, Harrisons, Granollers are also still examples of family tennis dueling, brotherly love. Continue to read full article...

Steve Johnson and Daniil Medvedev had a hot-tempered clash on Wednesday late night on grandstand at the Citi Open that erupted into a grudge match. "You seldom see tennis players get really mad at each other," a photographer who was at the match told me. "But Steve Johnson and Medvedev got into it." I left the Fitzgerald Tennis Center right after Tennys Sandgren defeated Nick Kyrgios and unfortunately missed all the drama between 27-year-old Johnson and the #NEXTGEN Russian, who played each other once before, last month in Eastbourne (won by the 21-year-old 63 26 63). Citi Open Quotebook

Eugenie Bouchard: "It was a very tough decision to play Challengers. It was very humbling to play Challenger events because it is so different than WTA events. I skipped the whole Challenger scene because from juniors I was playing WTAs and Grand Slams. I didnt even win the tournament there because there are great players playing those events." 0208-130837 Continue to read full article...

Citi Open Monday

mail.google.comObservations... Monfils and Zverev were having a good intense practice. Lots of hitting, lots of points. One observer was Sekou Bangoura who would later make his ATP main draw singles debut hours later vs Marius Copil. Qualifier Sekou told me Monfils is his guy, his inspiration. Sekou played well but Copil had a bit too much firepower. 6476. Continue to read full article...

Ready for the Citi Open

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAMy first Citi Open was a memorable one. It was 2007 and it was the first time I ever saw John Isner, or the first time I ever heard of the name John Isner. He was on a practice court on day one, looking like an NBA center but equipped with mesmerizing tennis talent. Of course, Isner was born as an ATP star that week, winning five matches all by third set tiebreakers vs Henman, B Becker, Odesnik, Haas, Monfils in the SF before finally losing in the final 46 67 to Andy Roddick.
