Dan Markowitz

Dan played college tennis at SUNY Cortland (NY) and then played for a short stint on the Satellite Tour in 1987 in France and Portugal. His claim to fame was losing 6-0, 6-1 to the 15th-ranked player in France in Reims when Noah was #1, Leconte #2 and Forget #3. He also once hit a volley through Jimmy Connors’s legs when both were playing net in a exhibition doubles match. He has been writing about tennis for 25 years for Sports Illustrated, The New York Times, World Tennis, Tennis and Tennis Week magazines. Among his tennis journalism highlights: Interviewing and writing stories on Arthur Ashe, Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe, Andy Roddick, Roger Federer, Andre Agassi and Vince Van Patten, to name a few. In 2005, he co-wrote the tennis book, “Break Point” with Vince Spadea which at one point in 2006 was the #1 tennis book on Amazon.com. Dan considers himself a connoisseur of the minor leagues of tennis – the Futures and Challenger circuits – where the great stories of grit and passion reside: “I love everything about a tennis match from the action, the players’s personalities, the mood of the crowd and the tension created by the breaks in the game.”

    Hi Dan,
Read your blurb on Syd Levy, old patient of mine from 1st Advantage Dental. How amazing is that! He brought in an old photo of him serving from the 50’s. So interesting. My grandfather Albert Rose-Innes was brought up in SA and played the first test cricket match against England and got all the high scores. Hope you and your family are well.
