Wimbledon Qualies Joy And Agony

The agony…

Danielle Lao, 31 and ranked outside top 200, lost in third round of qualies today 61 63 to Natalie Shunk. The veteran known as the Little Giant played Wimbledon main draw last year but still has never won a Grand Slam main draw match.

Stefan Kozlov lost 6-3 in the fifth set today to Daniel Novak. He was attempting to compete in his first Wimbledon main draw.

Jason Jung, the 33 year old ranked 263, lost in five sets today to Marc Andrea Huesler 57 46 63 63 26. Jung was seeking his fourth Grand Slam main draw and his first ever Grand Slam main draw match win. It’s the first Grand Slam main draw for the Swiss 24 year old ranked 104

The joy…

Christian Harrison beat Daniel Masur in five sets today and now the 28 year old ranked 248 will attempt to win his first Grand Slam main draw match, having lost 1R at Wimbledon 2018 and US Open 2016.

Alexander Ritschard is 28 and ranked just inside the top 200 but he qualfiied today for his first Grand Slam main draw with a 63 75 64 win.

Lukas Klein, the 24 year old from Czech Republic, defeated 38 year old veteran Andreas Seppi today 61 67 76 76 and has qualified for his first Grand Slam main draw.

26 year old Louisa Chirico has overcome shoulder problems and qualified for her second Wimbledon main draw with a 63 67 61 win vs Von Deichmann. Chirico has lost first round of six of her Grand Slam main draws, only winning one round at 2016 French Open.

28 year old Catherine Harrison (no relation to Christian), ranked 264, defeated Yue Yuan of China 61 76 and will compete in her first Grand Slam main draw. Yuan was also seeking to reach her first GS main draw.

36 year old Lukas Rosol has not played Wimbledon main draw since 2017 but today he qualifed with a win over Renzo Olivo 76 76 64. The former Nadal conqueror at Wimbledon, has not win a match in a major since 2017 Wimbledon. He’s currently ranked 278.

Nikola Kuhn, the 26 year old German ranked 246, beat Rinky Hijikata today 64 36 75 76 and will now contest his first Grand Slam main draw.

Mom Yanina Wickmayer qualified for her first Grand Slam main draw since 2020 US Open.

Jack Sock, age 29 and ranked 102, will play his first Wimbledon main draw since 2018, following today’s 75 75 64 win vs. Hugo Grenier. Sock won 2018 Wimbledon doubles.
