Wimbledon 2025 Commences

Carlos Alcaraz escaped with a five set win vs Fabio Fognini and increased a unique record he holds over Djokovic/Federer/Nadal…

Players in their first 15 fifth sets…

Rafael Nadal: 12-3
Roger Federer: 7-8
Novak Djokovic: 10-5

Carlos Alcaraz: 14-1

Amanda Anisimova had no mercy for fellow Russian Yulia Putintseva with a 60 60 demolition.

Former finalist Ons Jabeur lost first round but she is still supporting Palestine against the evil genocide by Israel. Ons: “My heart always goes out to Gaza because their situation is getting worse and worse and I feel like people are forgetting about them.”

Top 100 debutante Brandon Holt is playing his first Wimbledon but the 27 year old is down two sets to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Holt is ranked 99.

Emma Raducanu launched her title quest with a 63 63 win vs Mimi Xu.

Benjamin Bonzi scored his best win in a Grand Slam over 9 seed Daniil Medvedev 76 36 76 62. Medvedev didn’t sugarcoat the loss: “F-ck grass. How are we supposed to be ready for this surface when we only play on it for like three weeks a year. Casper (Ruud) is smart to skip it. I’m gonna call him and try to join him on vacation, f-ck grass, man.” Med will lose 780 points and drop out of the top ten.

Holger Rune blew a 64 64 two set lead and lost to Nico Jarry 75 63 64. Rune was salty after:
“In normal conditions, I’d beat him nine times out of ten, with all due respect to Nicolas Jarry. Obviously, I didn’t have it easy today with my knee, but yes, it wasn’t a great match.”

Stefanos Tsitsipas, seeded 24th, retired down 36 26 to Valentin Royer, ranked 113.

In a battle of young Americans Learner Tien took out Nishesh Basavareddy in three sets.

Pushed back due to long matches today, Sasha Zverev or Arthur Rinderknech will be playing 3 days in a row because Wimbledon refuses to start any earlier than 1:30 on Centre Court. The sensible solution is there should be four matches per day and play should begin at 11 am.

Fabio Fognini, a five set victim of Carlos Alcaraz today: “Djokovic, Federer, and Nadal monopolized the circuit and wrote the history of this sport, but Novak is the strongest and the numbers testify to it.”

Zverev salutes Novak Djokovic for the generosity of his tennis genius with younger players as a quality no other player in tennis history has exhibited: “I think how he has shared his knowledge and what he has done for the game of tennis, for young players as well, is phenomenal.”

Aryna Sabalenka says she doesn’t support the idea of best of 5 sets for women in Slams from the QF to the final:

Question: “We just had an epic French Open men’s final. Yours was very dramatic as well. Would you be interested if they made it best of five in the final, semis, or quarters for women? Would that appeal? How would you feel about it?”

Aryna Sabalenka: “I think probably physically I’m one of the strongest ones. Maybe it would benefit me. But I’m not ready to play five sets. I think it’s too much on the woman body. We are not ready for this amount of tennis. I think it would increase the amount of injuries. So this isn’t something I would consider. I’ll leave this for the guys to handle.”

The gripes of a queue die hard on day one: “I’ve never once left a tennis tournament when I have tickets before the last ball was hit on the grounds . Today was a first. The queue is out dated and needs to be binned. I’m a healthy man in my early twenties but the heat was too much for me today and I am a die hard.”

Fognini was really hitting crisp today.

Griekspoor looked like a deer in the headlights against Brooksby.

Watching GMP vs Fritz right now. GMP single handedly bringing back 90s power tennis. His lateral movement is actually superior to Frtiz’.

Perricard might be the most powerful force in tennis ever, he’s like a super heavyweight like Lennox Lewis and the Klitschkos, just too big and too strong for everyone else. A better version of Raonic. Fognini always strikes the ball cleanly, he’s a special one of a kind talent, so smooth and when he finds his A plus game, he could take out all time greats like Nadal from two sets down. But like Delpo and Stan, his A plus turbo game was infrequently witnessed. Brooksby is back and better than ever, top 20 bound.

I miss the “all whites” with the color accents and designs we saw in the 80s and 90s. Everyone is all all white now and it’s not as aesthetically pleasing. I want doctors and karate instructors to wear all all white, not Wimbledon players.

Yeah the only dash of color I noticed were three green stripes on Munar’s Adidas shoes.

Mimi Xu wore green tights under her very short skirt. Surprised that wasn’t a violation. Remember one player had to change shoes because he had green soles on his shot bottoms.

The strategic mastermind, Jenson Brooksby, will face off against the worlds most famous wunderkind, Joao Fonseca, this morning at Wimby.

Can’t wait to see this one.
