Tennis is a hugely popular sport, drawing millions of viewers across the globe. One of the most exciting things about tennis is the continuous crop of rising young talent.
One such player who has captured the imagination of millions is Emma Raducanu.

Emma Raducanu’s Rise To The Top
Emma Raducanu turned professional in 2018, at the age of just 15. She’s played over 100 matches so far, winning 84 of them and achieving a win percentage of around 70%.

Despite that, she’s still ranked 11th in the world in the women’s tennis division, her highest ever rank. And, she’s also the British number one too.

Injuries could pose a problem for Raducanu in the future too. In her junior career, she dropped out of 4 tournaments (out of 19) due to injury and that pattern has continued into her professional career.
Tennis is an intense and demanding sport. Unlike other sports, like basketball or football, the conditions in which players compete are changeable. For example, some tournaments may be played on clay, whereas others may be on grass.
Some matches can go on for hours too, especially if they stretch out over three sets. This can all place an incredible physical demand on players, in particular on youngsters who are transitioning into the professional game.
Another factor that hasn’t helped Raducanu is her lack of a consistent coach. In the last couple of years, she has split from three coaches, including Torben Beltz, one of the sport’s leading mentors. This has prevented her from settling into a solid routine.
Will Emma Raducanu Win Another Title In 2022?
Given her history of injuries, it remains questionable whether Emma Raducanu can claim another title in 2022 or not.
So far in 2022, she’s failed to go beyond the second round in a Grand Slam tournament. Injuries have forced her to retire from a number of other competitions too and, with concerns over her coaching team, there are still many doubts surrounding her prospects this year.
The likelihood is that Raducanu will use 2022 as a “finding her feet” year. She’s admitted to being inexperienced – remember this is her first full time season competing in the WTA Tour – and these early years of her career will prove a massive help.
As she’s already proven so far, Raducanu has bags of talent. A combination of better coaching, more experience, and an injury-free run will see her rise even higher.

Interesting piece of some historical significance and also putting Emma’s rise in perspective – ie how little she was regarded as a junior, far from the Next Big Thing, whereas Gauff was highly touted from around 10 years old. So no wonder Raducanu has been pushed sideways a bit with all the publicity.
Christine Truman was well before my time but I knew about her, later on in connection with Althea Gibson’s career.

I had never even heard or seen the Raducanu name before last Wimbledon. Gauff I saw play and heard about the hype before she was 12. I actually saw her playing the 12s at Eddie Herr and she lost to Noa Krznaric who is about finished with her average ITF junior career. I remember Coco’s grandmother screaming CMON COCO!!! which you could hear from four courts away )
