Former ATP top 150 player Dusan Vemic has been named the new coach of Novak Djokovic for at least the next two tournaments, this week in Geneva, Switzerand and then next week’s French Open.
Vemic achieved a career high ranking of 146 and has worked with several notable players in a coaching capacity in recent years, including the Bryan Brothers, Brandon Nakashima, Andrea Petkovic. He currently serves as the Team Serbia Billie Jean Cup captain.
Djokovic revealed the news at his Geneva press conference: “Dusan Vemic, who is actually [the Serbian Billie Jean King] Cup captain — but he was part of my coaching team years ago with Marian (Vajda) — he’s here, so he’s going to be here with me in Geneva and Roland Garros. And Bris Bosnjakovic, who is my assistant coach and analyst as well, so they’re both going to kind of share that role for the next couple tournaments and then we’ll see.”
“I don’t have any rush to choose whether I’m going to have someone or not, I don’t know. I don’t know at this moment. I’m fine with these guys and I’m happy the way it is and then we’ll see after Paris.”
Djokovic will open his Geneva campaign against Marton Fucsovics, whom he holds a 5-0 career head to head record against.
37 year old Djokovic has previously been coached by Marian Vajda, Boris Becker, Nenad Zimonjic, Goran Ivanisevic, and Andy Murray.

No Sampras yet, huh? 😏

No Pete but it wouldn’t be a shock if Novak called or met with Pete when he was in Los Angeles a few weeks ago.

Well, maybe Pete was just too boring for Novak. 😹

I still wonder if Novak and Pete had a conversation. And if Pete shied away from the spotlight that would have been put on him if he showed up in Paris as part of Team Djokovic. He doesn’t like the attention.

Maybe Pete could serve as an éminence grise for Team Djokovic then. 🕵🏻♂️
If it’s true Sampras hates attention, my guess is that he doesn’t have much of a social-media presence. And if so, good for him. 👍

Sam, Pete is a recluse from the tennis world, can’t imagine he could fit in now, he never liked the spotlight or attention. He may not be able to handle the big show now which is a lot different than it was 25 years ago.
