Catherine, it is never talked about, it’s like it never happened. The video on you tube shows it was a big crowd and a big event. Connors is a far bigger personality sports figure than Riggs and Martina and BJK are about the same. If Martina won that it would be as talked about as the Houston Astrodome dive.

I hope that De Minaur can get past the quarters of a slam eventually. He blamed a low first serve percentage. According to a quick google search he’s played six grand slam quarter finals.
By comparison Gasquet played in three grand slam
semi-finals and lost to members of the big three in each attempt.

‘The Astrodome Dive’ – I watched the match although sometime afterwards and it was certainly no dive. BJ didn’t play particularly well but she played better than Riggs. I know Bobby was notorious for betting on anything that moved and a few things that didn’t and he lost that one. He was never the same since.
BTW in the 70s Billie Jean was certainly bigger than Martina.
She transcended tennis.

Everybody in tennis knows Riggs dove, it’s an open secret. BJK promised and then ducked the rematch. Because she knew Riggs was coming to play for real. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve personally heard insiders say it was a phony match. The rematch would have generated even bigger profits. Ask yourself why it never happened. Trump offered McEnroe vs Serena $1m winner take all. McEnroe was in. Ask yourself why Serena declined. Im guessing Nick will dive too.

de Minaur may have maxed out at GS QF which is amazing. I remember him being in the Eddie Herr 18s with Ruud, Tsitsipas, Yibing Wu. Felix beat de Minaur in the final that year 63 67 76. Ruud was top seed and lost to Ben Sigouin 46 57 in R16. Tsitispas was 2 seed and lost to Felix in the SF 46 57.

Has anyone seen Osaka’s baby Shai? During an August 2025 appearance on Today, Osaka shared that Shai will see her mom play for the first time at the US Open.

Scoop – I’m not going on with this argument re King/Rigga because there’s never going to be any end to it. Except – we all believe what we want to believe and the last people I’d believe are ‘insiders’
I was never an insider but I knew a few people around the game in those days and the idea that Riggs threw the match was a joke. King won because on the day she was the better player.

Interesting that FAA had his number is juniors. Maybe De Minaur can imrpove his 2nd serve so he’s not “on the back foot” on those points.
Also, very impressed with Anisimova taking out Swiatek after getting double bageled by her at Wimby. Love Anisimova’s strokes.
…btw I don’t find Ben Stiller’s fawning over Novak sincere. It’s an unwriten rule: You can’t like two of the big three that much. You have to choose one 🙂

Steve, Stiller is a phony like most of Hollywood. He used Rafa for his own self promotion like he’s now doing with Novak. Like Anna Wintour did with Federer. Like Streisand did with her Zen Master. Like Shields did also using Andre. Stars attaching to tennis players generates valuable free publicity. Brad Pitt did it differently, he quietly came to watch two Djokovic grand slam finals so he’s likely a Djokovic fan. Anisimova either had stage fright at Wimb or she took a dive. I think she’s ready to win her first grand slam.

I have a feeling that the finale of Game, Set, Matchmaker was far more interesting and dynamic. 🤣 So, maybe the head honchos at the U.S. Open really did know what they were doing!
