He was enraged when down match point vs Bonzi, a dumb photographer walked into the photo pit and the umpire Greg Allensworth gave Bonzi a first serve due to the slight delay. Medvedevil argued the call by Allensworth and declared, “He wants to leave, he gets paid by the match not the hour.” Med ended up winning the third and fourth sets but lost in five 63 75 67 06 64. He was fined $100,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct and racquet abuse and $50,000 for criticizing Allensworth’s umpiring. Medvedev wrecked a bunch of his Technifibres.
Med post match said Bonzi should be fined for too much coaching: “I have no idea how much the punishment (fine) will be. Today I didn’t do anything wrong, I hope he gets fined too because today he received a lot of coaching, to the point that one no longer knows if he is allowed or not. In the end, they always fine the same people: Kyrgios, Bublik, myself, even Opelka, who despite being a good guy, gets fined him because they don’t like him.”
ESPN reported that not only was the photographer removed but his credentials were also revoked for the remainder of the tournament.
