She is at her career high singles ranking right now – 238.

More on women’s tennis : out soon on Jun 5th is ‘Building Champions: Paths to success in Women’s Tennis’. Pub by Arena Sport.

Fascinating piece on Raducanu but I can’t give a link as it’s in the Telegraph. However among many revelations is the opinion of one of her many coaches that Emma’s PR is amazing – under it all she’s a ‘stone-cold killer’ with a genius level analytical mind. Interesting tit bits about her father too.

Funny, her style of play seems basic baseline bash the ball. Does the coach specify any genius level analytical examples? Sounds like propaganda to build up her image as a fighter on court and perhaps intimidate some girls who read it. Like boxing, tennis is mind games.

Yes, her coach does give examples. I think there’s no doubt Emma is gifted in mathematical subjects, though whether this ability can translate to tennis is debatable. I think his point was that a lot of PR presents her as a conventional girl athlete when she’s not like this at all and partly explains her rapid turnover in coaches.

I’ll try to get a look at the book when it’s published. Anyway Emma has her injury ready for the first round – fragile back, caused her loss in Strasbourg.

Referring to Tiantsoa – do you think players who opt for a pro career over college have advantages ? Few men seem to go that route.

No doubt she has something very special and extraordinary in her mind, she won a Grand Slam at 19 to shock the world, not one expert saw that coming. She has to keep believing that despite the three years of mediocrity since. Yes she always throws out the injury excuse ahead of time to protect her ego and image after the early loss. College is now a very wise advantageous move – Steve Johnson, Danielle Collins, Emma Navarro, John Isner are the most notable players from College to achieve excellent pro careers. McEnroe did a year too. Lately it’s been Nakashima, Brooksby, Tien, Jodar, Shnaider. Cressy. James Blake and Todd Martin also played NCAA too.
