PARIS, June 6, 2019 -Tennis Channel averaged 260,000 viewers during live coverage the first week of the two-week French Open, the sport’s most prestigious clay-court event.  This represents an increase of 47 percent vs. an average of 177,000 viewers for live coverage during the same period in 2018. American stars Serena Williams and Madison Keys delivered high-water marks for Tennis Channel last week.  Williams’ first-round victory over Vitalia Diatchenko on May 27 averaged 446,000 viewers, while Keys’ win over Anna Blinkova in the third round on June 1 generated a 448,000 average. This is Tennis Channel’s 13th year of covering the French Open.  In addition to live, daylong telecasts, this spring the network has provided up to 12 live courts per day on its streaming service Tennis Channel Plus.  Tennis Channel has live television coverage all 15 days of the event, including Friday’s highly anticipated semifinal between legendary rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Tennis Channel (www.tennischannel.com), which is owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group, is the only 24-hour, television-based multimedia destination dedicated to both the professional sport and tennis lifestyle.     Does this have anything to do with the fact that Tennis Channel is now showing up on basic cable? It was on a special sports package last year. Not so since February or so for me with Comcast.
