Andre Agassi is the heart, soul and voice of the sport. He’s been there, done that, experienced the highs and lows of the most challenging career in sports, trying to make it as a successful professional player. He did it against all odds, with the pressure of being the fourth child his dad Mike projected to fulfill his goals and dreams after his three older children fell short of his vision.
I found this obscure interview Agassi did in 1995 with a local Las Vegas media personality…
Interview with Eddie A, Host of the Fastest 30 Minutes On TV link
My dad had a fascination with tennis like you wouldn’t believe. My two sisters and brother played. My first memory is actually on the tennis court.
You carry (big losses) with you your whole life. I dream about losses. I absolutely go to sleep, I dream about where I went wrong, where the other player went more right. And that’s something I don’t think you never lose sight of. I’ll be 75 years old telling my great grandchildren about basically how all these matches I should have won but I didn’t [smiles]. That’s just the way t feels. You can remember each point.
I just love playing. If you bring me more power, I’m going to do my best to respond to it with what I have. It’s about how you manipulate the game. It’s a question of getting your strengths to his weaknesses, your weaknesses away from his strengths. Sometimes it’s a push and shove. Sometimes you’re trying to boss that guy around and make him fit into your game and he’s trying to pull you into his. And it’s whoever is the more stubborn… I’m a Taurus so I tend to be a little more stubborn [smiles].
Question: Advice to young tennis players aspiring to be a future Andre Agassi?
Andre Agassi: I’ve said this before. I feel it’s important. As long as tennis stays a part of your life, it adds so much. But the second it becomes what life is or how you measure yourself, your worth as a human being or even your worth as an athlete, it’s not worth it. It’s something you should keep a part of your life and enjoy it. The second you stop enjoying it, look for something else.

Scoop, what were you saying about a month ago that his sister Rita made some controversial comments on Facebook, and then suddenly clammed up? 🤔
The second you stop enjoying it, look for something else.
Well, does anybody in pro tennis really enjoy every second on the tour? Probably not. 😏

Sam, it’s a positive message from Andre but tennis is all about tension and pressure and sometimes overcoming agony, heartbreak and devastation. I know Andre had some blowups after losses, even after a meaningless practice set with an unranked player, which will be in my next book Facing Andre Agassi. Tennis is always going to include the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.

Scoop, so what about his sister Rita’s controversial Facebook comment(s)? I’m pretty sure you said something about that not that long ago.

She was giving some vague, cryptic comments, particularly targeting Cahill, but she has since silenced herself or was silenced by someone else. She sounded like a crackpot to be honest.

Wow, very strange. Wonder what was going on there with her.

Probably some inside family issues and needing money from the moneymaker.
