Holger Rune confirmed that he ruptured his Achilles tendon in the Stockholm semifinal vs Ugo Humbert and he will need to have surgery next week.
The achilles tendon is a serious injury which likely will sideline Rune for about a year. “It’s gonna be a while before I can step on court again. It’s tough. I had so much joy on court in Stockholm and it’s unbearable to think that I will not feel this energy for some time now. My achilles is full broken on the proximal part meaning I need operation already next week and from here rehabilitation – thank you for all your support now and always . Without you nothing would be the same. See you as soon as possible.”
The 22 year old is ranked 11 in the world and had a match record in 2025 of 36-22. He won one title this year, in April in Barcelona beating Carlos Alcaraz in the final 76 62. Rune has won five ATP singles titles and his best ranking was no. 4 in the world in August 2023.

That sucks. He’s pretty tough, he didn’t yell in agony or anything. Just limped to the sidelines.

Looked pretty bad, no chance he faked that. But we’ll see. If he plays AO you have to wonder. Aaron Rodgers had a similar injury on the first play of the Jets season and missed the whole year two years ago. But he’s back now and having a very good season in Pittsburgh. So Rune should bounce back. Just do the Thomas Muster training drills sitting on the bench to keep form and timing.

Rune is one of those guys intense enough to rehab like Muster. True dat. 🙂

Would not be a bad idea to communicate with Muster and gain insights and inspiration. Muster knee accident happened in early April and then he returned in September, so it was not a very long hiatus but still five months of stagnation while every other player was improving and working was a big disadvantage. One year out will be a tough struggle for Rune.
