Rublev Praises Nadal as “the best athlete in history”

Nadal in action, just minutes away from winning the U.S. Open.

Could it be that the greatest, most decorated athlete in the history of sport is not Roger Federer, Muhammad Ali, Michael Spinks, Wayne Gretzky, Michael Jordan, Tom Brady, Michael Phelps, Manny Pacquiao, Deion Sanders or Bo Jackson?

Andrey Rublev, now ranked in the ATP top ten, has a differing opinion on the subject.

“Even if you take other sportsmen or athletes, they can have bad days. But because maybe the team is good, they are still winning,” Rublev said yesterday after winning the St. Petersburg Open final 76 64 vs. Borna Coric . “In tennis, if you are having a really bad day… it is really tough to find a way [to win] and compete like nothing happened. He has done this during all his career. For me he is the best athlete, not even in tennis, the best athlete in history.

Nadal has won 20 Grand Slam singles titles and 13 French Open titles. And at age 34 and in good health, he may add considerably to those lofty numbers.

Hard to argue with Mr. Rublev.
