Marco Trungelliti has finally broken into the top 100 at 36 years old. He has earned direct entry into Roland Garros for the first time after coming through qualifying at eight Grand Slams previously. The former eldest player to reach the ATP top 100 for the first time was Victor Estrella Burgos at age 33. The veteran Argentine beat Moutet in Marrakech QF.
Trungelliti fired a shot at Fedal in an interview with La Nacion; “People may like it or not but Federer or Nadal never said anything, they are complicit with how bad the system is now as they were not able to open their mouths even ONCE and fight for the rights of players. As players they can be great but as humans trying to improve the system they seemed very poor to me. This is why Djokovic is doing so well, I met him (Djokovic) at the US open and thanked him for what he is doing for the players. The one that hurts me the most is clearly Federer because with his weight of charisma, if he really wanted to change things, they could have been changed.”
Credit One Charleston Open is the voted favorite tournament of the WTA players, packed crowds every day, every player loves Charleston venue and the city. Maybe Charlotte needs a pro tournament?
18-year-old Iva Jovic is seeded 4th at Charleston and currently at a career-high ranking of World No. 17
Two ex Grand Slam champs met in the second round, Bianca Andreescu and Sofia Kenin. It was a great battle but Kenin had a little more firepower, accuracy and drop shot variety. Andreescu is still missing her peak confidence but did rally from 15 to 45 in the second set. Kenin prevailed 64 64 but then lost next round to Jovic 57 57.
The Change Over podcast guys asking Frances Tiafoe who is better between Fritz and prime Nishikori and Tiafoe laughed as if it was a silly question. His answer was Nishikori by a mile.
