The Polonia Open Tennis Tournament was contested this weekend at the beautiful Packanack Lake Tennis Club in Wayne, NJ.
Tennis players from Illinois, Connecticut, New York and New Jersey traveled to Packanack Lake for the competition which was hosted and directed by Artur Bobko.
This is the 20th year of the Polonia Open tournament which also stages competitions at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing NY and at Sanchez Casal Tennis Academy in Naples Florida.
The tournament is sponsored by Yonex Tennis, Zymiec, Andrzej Fuks, Piotr Oko, Polonia Tennis Association Foundation.
This weekends results:
Open singles final: Greg Vadasdi (Greenwich, CT) defeated Robert Lerka (Chicago, IL) 16 75 76.
Lerka, a smooth operator with Federeresque quick feet and an all court attack game, held a match point in the second set but the bigger, stronger Vadasdi got stronger as the match progressed. And the Jim Courier admiring champion said he was able to adapt his game to his opponent’s patterns.

B Division singles final: Andzej Jonak (Chicago) defeated Walter Porucznik (Woodland Park, NJ) 62 61.
The former soccer goaltender from Chicago utilized his more efficent movement and consistent technical strokes to subdue the fierce Porucznik, who has been hampered by an injured knee but still progressed to the final despite the handicap.

Open doubles final: RD Ferman (New York City) and Darnell Caballes (White Plains, NY) defeated Mark Malinowski (Teaneck, NJ) and Jeff Silverman (Fort Lee, NJ) 62 26 76.
The New York duo benefitted by their relentless big serving, strong volleys and aggressive net play to prevail against the two NJ club members who played together for the first time in this round robin draw which included six other teams.
