NEW YORK, March 25, 2020โ€”As professional and amateur sports organizations continue to do their part in maintaining best practices to combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus, postponing competitions and events worldwide, there is a void of original live sports programming on TV. Enter the Pickleball Mania World Championship, set for Thursday at noon ET, streaming exclusively on ESPN3 as the only live TV sporting event currently available to viewers. Four of the worldโ€™s top professional pickleball players will vie for the first Pickleball Mania crown. They will battle it out in semifinal and finals action at a private residence under strict quarantine. The four competitors will be joined by a small production and event crew of no more than six people as the event complies fully with present restrictions and social distancing practices.

Fans can tune in for all three matches live on ESPN3 via their streaming players, computers and mobile devices. The final match will also be presented on tape delay on a variety of national and international networks at a later date. The Event was founded by Peter โ€œPJโ€ Jensen and Ryan Sherry from Itโ€™s Pickleball Mania LLC and Harry Cicma Productions LLC, in partnership with ESPN.

“This is a very special event, as one of the only professional sports being televised live worldwide during this difficult pandemic,โ€ said Cicma. โ€œThe most important thing is that the event and broadcast are intimate, in a private secluded residence, and promoting staying at home in quarantine and social distancing. It’s been a difficult few weeks for the community and we are grateful to finally bring live professional world championship excitement to the sports world in a safe way as we all try to beat COVID19.”

The event co-founders are Ryan Sherry, 6-Year NFL Veteran Brandon Siler and former professional football player P.J. Jensen, are serving as Tournament Directors. Cicma serves as the eventโ€™s executive TV producer through Harry Cicma Productions LLC.

This could be the event that explodes Pickleball into national prominence. It is the fastest growing sport in America, it’s astounding how many people especially older people play in Florida. It’s like the minor league easier t ball option for major leaguers/serious tennis players. I askd the 80 year old woman who came to play at Gillespie Park in Sarasota why she loves Pickleball, her reply, “I love it, it’s fun, it keeps me young, I get together with a lot of people, it’s fun to run around and hit the ball over the net. It keeps me healthy, it’s good exerise. My father lived to 100 and I hope to pass him!”

Pickleball is a cult. Karen Sarasota the county has painted blue lines on 64 64 tennis courts. This is really annoying to tennis players and not really fair to them. We do me resent
    It.

Let me clean that up. Here in Sarasota . We do resent it

I hate pickleball lines on tennis courts. But do like pickleball, fun game to play. Understand the massive fast growth.

There are 2 brothers, the Johns brothers, Collin Johns played professional tennis mostly futures, but they are apparently the best pickle ball team, and one of them is ranked number 1 in singles. I read he has some endorsement deals.

Interesting–never heard of pickleball before. If there’s any left over after a match, I guess you could put it in a tuna salad. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Jean, thanks for clarifying, I thought you were inventing a new language simultaneously while using an old language. )

jg, I saw Collin play Sarasota Open Challenger qualies 3 years ago, he hit nothing but forehands, righty and lefty, no backhands. He got to around 700 in the world I think.

Here in Palm Beach County pickleball has exploded. They built an entire complex but even that was not enough. So they took half the tennis courts and painted those unbelievably bright blue lines on them. None of the tennis players want to use them. Venus’s coach used them one time and then started coming an hour early to be sure to grab an unlined courts.

I get pickleball is great for some, but man I absolutely hate the sound of those plastic balls getting hit. For whatever reason, that sound grates on me.

Pickleball is essentially miniature golf compared to real golf. And it’s taken about as seriously by hardcore tennis players. But the difference is that the pickleball growth is actually taking a bite out of tennis industry. It’s stealing players and profits from tennis. I don’t know where to research how profitable miniature golf is.

Jean you are not showing your edit skills with your comments but it is quite all right. we do accept garbled comments and mumbled comments and even ebonics comments. Pickle ball is here to stay, the civil war between tennis and pickles may last years and years.

Scoop, with all the technology out there these days, surely there’s a way to add that kind of stuff to your Web site. ๐Ÿ˜‰
